Mystic Faerie has charm with a few negatives....
I've had this set about 2 months now and I am throughly loving it. I didn't think I would love a more "fluffy" deck so much, but I do. I think it is the unqiue use of colours that the illustrator chose to use. More subdued greens, blues, purples, reds etc. The faeries in the Major arcana are just breathtaking. Explosion of colour and evocative emotion. You can read so much in their faces. My favourites are the Empress, The Hermit, The Tower (a faery tree!) and Death, which looks more like a beautiful faery moth with deathhead's wings. I love how the Magician is juggling playing cards. There is much deeper meaning to that let me tell you (I read with PC's as well). Now the minors scale down the vibrancy and artwork quite a bit. The suit of pentacles is just the most sweetest, warm and gorgeous suit in this deck. The cups I was confused about as they're supposed to be nymphs but are clearly mermaids. Also realistically, how are the mermaids supposed to be walking about on land with a fin? I don't like this suit for the most part. While some of the cards are charming, no matter how hard I try I can't look at a photo of a mermaid just hovering there (what is she floating?), it just takes away from my pleasure of the deck. The swords and wands have some gorgeous cards. Knave of Swords....wow! I haven't been reading or using the book too often. I thought the writing was not up to standard and the fairytale stories a bit too simplistic and really narrowly focused the meanings of the suits and cards. I was expecting better writing and exploration of the suits with these stories, so I was let down in that aspect. If you read without the book though, I think the pictures can open up and tell you a lot. But if you go by the book meanings, it might be too constricting. The spreads contained in the back are wonderful though and my favourite is the Rose Petal Spread. All in all, if you love faeries, I am certain you will love this deck. As a reading deck it is giving me gentle, but firm messages and reads quite easy. I think the use of colours and the charming borders really make this deck stand out from others in the genre.

Some may find this book a bit too "frivolous".
I only have the book, not the cards, so I can only comment on that. The book I bought was used, had some wear and tear, and lots of underlined sentences and extra notes. I for one don't believe in the Fae, but I'm convinced that tarot can be a good personal development tool. The deck for which this book was written is structured with five "stories", one for major arcana, the others for each suite of the minor arcana. I'm not sure I like this. To me, each tarot card must be a story in and of itself, or else the cards won't have as much meaning on their own. I find the swords suit particularly weak as they are not actual swords in this deck. They're rose thorns. Still, I want to buy this deck to use with the Shadowscapes Tarot in spreads that use two decks. The art style is very different ... Encouragement here is for accepting pain and sorrow represented by Death and Devil cards as part of nature rather than something to angst about, which could result in needless loss of enjoyment of one's life.

A faerie tale with real world applications...
This tarot deck is a beautifully rendered faerie tale of easily understood images. The colorful paintings of a believable faerie realm are simply delightful, but the associated feelings are entirely human. The summarized "message" of each card is so readily applicable to "real world" situations that I cannot imagine a simpler 'starter' deck, however, as your skills at tarot reading grow, the images will continue to speak to you. I have and use several popular decks, but none of them have ever spoken so clearly to me as this lovely interpretation! The book "explaining" these cards is charmingly written, very descriptive and thouroughly enjoyable. I am so glad I found this ethereal tarot deck. The only people I would not recommend this set to are those who cannot accept the idea of faeries. ... This tarot deck is a beautifully rendered faerie tale of easily understood images. Amazing Deck
The imagery is fantastic and the book tells a story that makes it really easy to remember the meaning of the cards. It truly is wonderful.

Lovely deck and well written book.
I'm not typically a faery fan but this deck is teaching me something new. I love the artwork and the book makes working with the cards fun. I think beginners would find the deck manageable because the stories help with learning the cards. I have about 15 decks now and this is in my top 5. I don't think you have to be big into faeries to enjoy this deck. It encourages you to use your imagination and dream a bit. And that is never a bad thing!I'm not typically a faery fan but this deck is teaching me something new. I love the artwork and the book makes working with the cards fun.
