Faithful to the Novel, to a Point
I had just finished the novel, but I should have been expecting a disappointing viewing considering this was made 40 years ago. LOL! The soundtrack was so dated and really distracting. I liked the performances, and the fact that you understand only as much of the language as the protagonist. My husband thought there wasn't enough battle (and he's right) and that it had a very anticlimactic ending. But the ending was just like the book, with some of the voice over being recited verbatim from the book. When the protagonist wasn't in the story, I would have liked subtitles. Occasionally the narrator would speak over the dialogue with some exposition. Great story, acting and a fantastic series
The story had a great plot. You actually learn some Japanese. The actors were excellent. I have wanted this series for awhile but the price is reasonable now. I enjoyed it very much but I had forgotten how violent it was although there were reasons for the violence. You learned some history while watching it. It is worth the time and the money.

Fantastic and joyful.
I read the book and watched the miniseries during its original broadcast. I wanted to see it again, but it was not available for streaming or replay. Thank you for providing this product. I enjoyed it immensely. I was concerned that the quality of the CDs might not be good, but they were exceptional. The SHOGUN Blu-ray brought me great joy.

SHOGUN may be the ultimate expression of the neglected TV mini-series format. It trasnports the viewer to another culture, time and place. Based on James Clavell's sweeping epic novel dealing with Japanese politics and Catholic Church mystery (Jesuits). Along with the outstanding mini-series "Adams", Shogun is 100% binge worthy. You don't want to miss this one!

Shogun,it's one of those romantic history pieces with excellent characters and great storytelling by Orson Wells.You will enter into the mysterious world of the Japanese warrior and the customs of the people.This movie will draw you in and will keep you entertained.
