Mercenaries 2: World in Flames continues the open-world warfare that helped distinguish its Xbox and PS2 predecessor. You are cast in the role of a heavily armed mercenary, whose truculent talents go to the highest bidder. The destination this time around is Venezuela, where a military coup has instigated a full-scale battle over the country's precious oil supply. Resources such as tanks, APCs, boats, automobiles, and even mini-nukes can be at your disposal in a moment's notice. You can set buildings, vehicles, and even people on fire while you complete a series of deadly missions at the behest of wealthy clients. <br><br>Key features include a cooperative multiplayer campaign, an ability to recruit fellow mercenaries, and an assortment of tools to master. One such gadget, the grappling hook, lets you latch onto helicopters and other aircraft to commandeer them from the air. Once again the action is viewed from a third-person perspective as you choose from three playable characters, each possessing distinct attributes: powerful Christopher Jacobs, agile Jennifer Mui, and unstable Mattias Nilsson. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is developer Pandemic Studios' first release since being acquired by Electronic Arts in October 2007.

Mercs 2 the Explorer of the World
To simply answer the question they ask for the review I will start out by saying this one game I am truly glad I invested money into. The graphics where great,and the openness of the game was ever more amazing. The weapons felt life like,but still was able to have that arcade feel to it that many gamers have grown to love over the years. My only true problem with it was that even when you turned the settings down the symbols for the things you can do would not stay for long once in the game. The main reason I was able to know what I could and couldnt do was simply because I played the xbox360 version of this game with a friend. Though other then that I really didn't have a problem with them game. The main thing that really pulled me into such a open FPS such as this one was that you could ... From blowing up buildings with massive bombs to just riding around doing small missions to earn money. I never felt like I didnt have something that could interest me. Even now with the game as complete as I could get it I still go back and do random things to have fun, but in truth it really sticks to its word. For even when you are having fun you have to be careful for you could blow up the wrong base,or not get away from your crime quick enough and found out that now you owe that clan or group(which ever you like to call it) of people money just to get them back on your side so that every time you hit one of their rock blocks you dont get your vehicle or you blown to piece from a stationary rocket luncher. So in close I must say that this game could easily Rival the GTA series,and has so much to offer without much to complain about. Even if you have problems with the graphics because of your system the game is so entertaining that you won't care.

Graphics: Mercenaries 2 is completely over done graphics wise. I have dual 3870's and I cannot tell if this game supports dual video cards or that it is so graphically intense that my 2 less than 1 year old, top of the line graphics cards cannot support it on even medium settings. This is pretty dibilitating considering you would want to play a brand new game on at least medium settings. Frankly I was lucky to get 1/3 view distance and 1024x768 resolution on my 1600x1200 22" monitor. Audio: Aside from the overly annoying repetative fiona telling you the same facts about venezuela time after time in the same game save. The audio isnt terrible. the helicopters will make you turn that volumn down though when shooting. Gameplay: This is where Merc 2 really gets average. If you arent fighting ... You are fighting the landscape. while massively 3d landscapes, once you get knocked off of a vehicle, shuld you land on any inclination, your body will commence to roll from anywhere in the range of 5 seconds to 1 minute. How about the barracks of men that creep out the windows to RPG you 5 feet away, and yet remain undamaged by it themselves. How about how the US NPC's can shoot their anti-tank missle in repeat sucession, yet when picked up you must reload individual shots. Maybe its the 20 different ways to hijack 20 different faction vehicles that send you insane having to write them all down to remember the combos, as should you fail, you are bound to 2 health and rolling down a hillside for a long minute. If these dont get you the utter lack of vehicle control will. You will feel like you are driving a molasses truck with the way any of the vehicles steer and turn all land, sea, air. Whats the point of having money stashes around the map if you can bet your helicopter pilot 3.3 million to stack some crates in the alotted time. Which ends up taking 2 of 6 minutes alotted. Each money crate will only give 100k, yet 2 minutes worth of work makes you insanely richer, and its repeatable. Maybe if you reach the end you will be further frustrated by the lack of being able to complete 100% of the game, as if you make choices that alter the games course, you wont complete it. What choices these come to be remain unknown to me. Perhaps finally the most annoying thing besides a more than poorly beta-tested game is the online nature of the title. It utterly lacks any real online multiplayer, more like online cooperative adventure that gets boring as soon as you blow all the cool stuff up. Overall this game gets its positive score from its interactive story mode, the multitude of missions, factions, vehicles and weaponry. The graphics are nice to have nice but not being able to set it high makes any game look dull as heck by the time you finish lowering everything. Addicting game if not for the annoyances from lack of testing and lack of online multiplayer format. A must buy if you enjoyed merc 1 alot and just want a good single player game to conquer before moving onto the next. If you think this game will stay installed on your computer for more than 1 month you are probably mistaken. 4 days and I am 70%, game doesnt last long.

This game may be old. and the Graphics not as nice as when it came out. But Playing it again for the first time brings back so many memories. But it's not mere nostalgia that keeps me coming back to this title. Rich lush open world to drive in. You have plenty of vehicles both civilian and military to hijack at your leasure. Plenty of guns to storm the next base with and did I mention you can level buildings with air strikes? Story won't win any awards but that's not a bad thing when you have such pleasent voice acting through out the game. But if you get this I might suggest a controller pad for pc. while the keyboard commands over all are nice,Hijackings that take more then one button press can be a bit tricky to pull off on a keyboard. Which is sad but to be expected when it comes to a 2009 title. it's sad that this was one of the last titles pandemic did before they closed down not long after this games release because two sequels were planned that would have updated the graphics and expanded the mercinaries universe. Over all it's got it flaws but for what some would call a Grand Theft Auto clone,it honestly holds it's giving you plenty of things to drive,shoot or blow up. over all aqusition of needed currency is also fairly nice. and while not the hardest game in the world it does offer a good balance of difficulty with really nice rewards for your efforts. at the prices it's trending at I think it's worth it to see how far pandemic the studio went before sadly closing down. Hope this helps would be buys make a choice. if not then thank you for your time and happy gaming.

Mercenaries 2 is GREAT!
It's one of my favorite games, in a nutshell it's basically the same as Grand Theft Auto but you can blow up any buildings, vehicles, walls, trees or anything else! Definitely 5 stars on consoles, The only thing that stops it from getting 5 stars for PC is its compatibility, it will crash all the time if you don't have a newer dual, tri or quad-core CPU (older dual cores don't run the game well at all, single core will crash every 5-20 mins) and a newer ATI/Nvidea graphics card, it don't run well on any integrated graphics, I'd say have a ATI HD3600 or better or an Nvidea 8800 or better with 512mb+ memory on either.It's one of my favorite games, in a nutshell it's basically the same as Grand Theft Auto but you can blow up any buildings, vehicles, walls, trees or anything else! We bought it because Mercenaries one was really well thought out. It has a lot more. And you can side with any faction except for VZ. It is complex like the first one though some things have been taken away. You have to work for an engineer to get custom vehicles. You can not customize the vehicles. The helicopter pilot allows you fast transportation, the ability to pick up stray bombs and cash and to order vehicles and supplies.
