Far Cry has players controlling mercenary Jack Carver, who has recently arrives a tropical island to find himself alone and outgunned against a mysterious militia. The game runs on developer Crytek Studios' own "CryENGINE," which features unpredictable enemies that use group tactics to make Carver's job more difficult. Enemy units include scouts, stalkers, snipers, and grenadiers, each of whom can call for reinforcements to arrive by land, sea, or air.<br><br>Fortunately for players, Carver can gain access to a variety of weapons and items, such as motion-sensing binoculars to help in isolating targets from afar. Fighting, however, isn't always the answer when one is severely outnumbered, and players may choose to rely on stealth tactics to help see them through. Far Cry: Instincts is the Xbox version of the PC original, Far Cry, which was critically praised for its enemy AI, outdoor environments, and technological proficiency.

Great effort, but lacks a lot in refinement
FarCry Instincts is the first FarCry game for the Xbox, with the original award-winning game being designed for the PC. I was excited to get this title, as it featured not only single-player campaign modes but also a multiplayer online mode and, unlike any XBox game before it that I know of, the ability to create your own maps. These maps can then be shared with anyone on XBox Live and played online. However, once I started playing this title, the shortcomings became obvious very quickly. I will focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game for now. First, the matchmaking system is nowhere near as good as Halo 2. For a game that came after Halo 2, you expect it to be at least as good, if not better. You can also create your own matchmaking games and specify the terms of that match, ... You can also create your own matchmaking games and specify the terms of that match, such as match type, number of players, number of predators, weapon types, etc. But it seems as though the developer, a French company called Montreal Studios, left many things half-finished. For instance, you can place flags in your maps, but there is no capture the flag mode. In their booklet that describes the weapon types, it says the Sniper rifle has a 3x zoom mode and the Scout rifle has a 2x zoom mode, but in the game they both only zoom twice. The Sniper rifle does not zoom 3 times, although it is a bit more powerful than the Scout rifle. There are many more examples of this type of stuff but I won't bore you with them here. The bottom line is this title could have used a lot more polish before being released for $50 a pop. Single player mode is hardly worth mentioning. It's ok, but it's mostly the same stuff over and over. You constantly run into the types of bad guys, and you constantly use the same methods to kill them. In fact, at one point you meet a "boss" type character, a huge mutated man with what looks like three heads. However, you run into this character at least two more times in the game, and one one level they throw two of them into the mix, just for fun. Come on, can't you get more original than that? Don't just use the same old guys over and over. It's boring. The single player campaign is short, moderately entertaining, and pretty easy to beat. In fact, the end is so anti-climatic it makes you really upset when you realize you just beat the game. Buy this game for the ability to create your own maps and play with friends. Oh, on a side note you need to know that you do not have access to all the items in the regular game when you create maps, but a select few. It's still fun, but more brush sets would really make it worthwhile. A decent game, but buy it on sale.

Another first person shooter with a cool storyline and hours of gameplay. There are some really cool missions to figure out and an interesting plot. The weapons are fun to use and the creatures are challenging enough to keep you on your toes. The graphics in this game are excelent however it does have those invisible "borders" at the edges of the map. The only thing I really was disturbed with was how loud the volume of the music was during game play. I could not find any way to turn it down or off and it sometimes drowned out the sound effects of normal game play. In the two player mode I could not find a setting for AI making death-match my only option. Far Cry Instincts is a great game! Its fun, exciting, and has a great story line. Filled with twists and turns, Far Cry Instincts takes you through intense combat in locations from beautiful beaches to tropical swamps. Fight some of the best A.I. for the original Xbox, they not only shoot at you, they hunt you! As well as yelling taunts at you, the A.I. uses their tactics, weapons, and the terrain against you. This game also has one of the BEST map editors ever! Want to see your street in a war game? Well you can with this game, if you take the time to use it's editor, you can build the most detailed maps. This game is rate M for Mature, so don't buy it if you don't like cursing, blood, and the usual M stuff. Pretty fun game
Very fun game, but why did I sell it after 3 days? Its short, very short (6-8 hrs). Worest of all, there is only one difficulty and it is pretty easy. Doesn't have the diverse online play like halo or the easy matchmaking but it does have an amazing map editor. For anyone who loves counter strike "like" multiplier, this is a perfect game. Its fun, pick it up if you have the money and don't mind hosted games.Very fun game, but why did I sell it after 3 days? Its short, very short (6-8 hrs). Pretty good Halo type action, but in a jungle!
If you like 1st person shooters like Halo type games, this is it. Halo in the jungles. The graphics are pretty good, sometimes better than Halo, sometimes not as sharp. Game play is pretty fun and realistic. If you can get this for under $20 new or used, it's worth it :)
