Even though this film is self defined as docu-fiction by the filmmaker it offers a very honest and human treatment of the harsh life conditions of the Hudson Bay Inuit. The staging of scenes doesn't take away from the films impact and it's hard to be critical of this method in today's over-saturation of staged and over produced "reality" TV. Really quite extraordinary considering director Flaherty did it all by himself. A classic documentary
This film is a remarkable documentary from the 1920s about a First Nations Canadian man. It's widely known that the filmmaker manipulated the story and shots in many cases, but it's still well worth watching, both for the authentic aspects and for the example of early filmmaking. The footage is beautiful and the soundtrack that accompanies the silent film is captivating. The DVD arrived in excellent condition, exactly as described, and was sold at a reasonable price. A classic Inuit documentary
An informative documentary about traditional Inuit life. The producer ultimately did not do right by the native Eskimo "actors," but this is a valuable, rare look at life as it is no more.

A classic film everyone should see!
Nanook of the North is one of those films people forget about, I think, until they hear about it. Then it all comes rushing back, as many of us saw it in school. It's one of the first really good documentaries, and it happens to be about an Inuit boy and his life. Without words, the film is able to eloquently depict his life in the bitter cold, and we are all privy to the secrets of Eskimo life by watching the film--including the seal hunt.
