Allows hard-of-hearing/deaf to hear/feel installed smoke alarms while sleeping
Lifetone HLAC 151 - 1-21-2024 ** This unit is NOT a smoke/fire alarm by itself. It only "listens" for a smoke alarm going off and then it also alarms using a loud low-tone sound alarm and vibrating bed shaker to wake up the deaf or hard-of-hearing. You also need an actual smoke alarm(s) installed for this unit to be able to wake you up if there is a fire/smoke. Most consumer smoke alarms use a very high pitch alarm when they detect smoke. Unfortunately, most hard-of-hearing people lose their high-frequency hearing first and cannot hear these alarms (especially without hearing aids which they remove at night). This is the best device I have found on the market to making sleeping safe for hard-of-hearing and deaf. As of today, the Lifetone HLAC "151" is the most recent unit from ... Other earlier models will resell for less. The "151" model also has voice commands to assist with setup. These units sell for several hundred dollars from the manufacturer and are frequently out of stock there. The Pro's most definitely outweigh any Cons. PROS: 1) Although it's MAIN purpose is to alert you to a smoke alarm that is alarming, it also just makes for a nice easy to read bedside clock and alarm. I also use it to wake up for work every morning. 2) Low-tone (frequency) and loud sound for hard-of-hearing and bed shaker/vibrator that's good for deaf and hard-of-hearing folks. 3) Sturdy construction. Feels like a quality unit. Good solid buttons. 4) Battery backup to detect smoke alarm during power outage. (You must normally keep it plugged in to wall socket.) 5) Setup is actually very easy. Problems seem to come from folks who don't understand exactly what this unit was designed for. It's not a smoke detector. It only hears other smoke detectors which are alarming and then it alarms in a manner compatible with hard-of-hearing and deaf. CONS: 1) Screen is only dim-able from bright to medium or backlight completely off. At night, it's too bright to leave in bright or medium so you have to turn the backlight off... then you can't see the clock at all at night. That said, it's very easy to change the brightness, just tap the long "snooze/light button." 2) Red power light is too bright. Important to know that it's working, but the piercing red LED light should be auto-dimmed for nighttime. I put a piece of translucent tape on mine to dim it. 3) AM/PM alarm indicator is very hard to read and know whether it's set for morning or evening. This is due to a bad idea of trying to make one indicator function as both am and pm. Accomplished by inserting a very tiny line to add a 2nd "leg" to the "P" to change it to look like an "A."

Life tone Alarm Relay
I just hooked up this unit and tested it. it is built large and heavy enough to wake up someone who is very hard of hearing. it has a large dial and very loud voice to wake you and the vibrator is ample to wake almost anyone. I am very pleased with my initial view of this product.

Might wake the dead! But sleeping safe!!
Time will tell as it just showed up today. A couple weeks late due to a bar code problem . Was as described . And if this does not wake me up in time it means I'm already dead . It will probably wake up my neighbors also ! And it also has the bed shaker. So I'll just go with 3 stars for now & see if it does cause any problems or stop working .
