Product Information

Although its subject is an infamous boxer, RING OF FIRE: THE EMILE GRIFFITH STORY tells the a tale that centers on such human emotions as rage, regret, and forgiveness. This documentary is constructed through interviews with Griffith himself and others who experienced the film's events, as well as file footage of Griffith's public appearances and fights. Griffith was a native of the Virgin Islands who moved to New York in the 1950s and became one of the dominant middleweight boxers during the early 1960s. The entire time, however, Griffith struggled to hide his homosexuality, a knee-jerk reaction that still made him close-mouthed about it years later. The most famous moments of Griffith's career came when his career and his personal life collided in a tragic way during his well-known series of fights against Benny "the Kid" Paret. The third and final time they fought, Griffith beat Paret so badly that the latter died 10 days later, and Griffith's rage was reportedly fueled by a homosexual slur Paret repeatedly insulted him with. RING OF FIRE concentrates on the Paret fight, how it affected Griffith, and what it reveals about society and the culture of sports during the period.

    THIS WELL WRITTEN, FILMED & EDITED DOCUMENTARY CENTERS ON DEATH IN THE RING. EMILE GRIFFITH WAS MORE THAN AN ALL-TIME GREAT PRIZE FIGHTER --- EMILE WAS A GREAT BOXER-PUNCHER AND A TRUE GENTLEMAN IN AND OUT OF THE RING. BENNIE "THE KID" PARET WAS A QUALITY PRIZE FIGHTER --- WHOSE UNGENTLEMANLY WRODS MAY HAVE PRECIPITATED HIS OWN DEATH IN THE RING. RING OF FIRE EXAMINES HOW BENNIE'S DEATH AFFECTED EMILE AND BENNIE'S CORNERS.     One Of The Kings Of The Rings !!!!!

    I love this item because Emile is a legend, a gentlemen, and his story is amazing. I am in the Pro Boxing World as a profession. I have met Mr. Griffith many a times. Each time is more pleasurable than the one before. This biography movie is well put together and a must for anyone whom is a sports / boxing fan. I highly recommend this movie for everyone of all ages. Thank you, Ron Kerner Aka.     Sad but true

    This movie was really, really good! I never even heard of Emile Griffith before this movie and I was amazed with his boxing career. He was at the top of his game during his prime years, but a sad tragedy changed his life forever. I just have a problem with one thing about Mr. Griffith, and that is be true to yourself. Thats all that matters!!!!!

    Review for; Ring of Fire - The Emile Griffith Story

    I was disapointed in this one. I expected a boxing movie - this is a documentary. Emile Griffith was one of the Great boxers of our time. This documentary gives you the facts of his life. If you're a fan of his, and you want his whole true story then you'll for sure want to get this one.

    Great story

    I am a boxing fan and the story caught my attention. This particular time period was during my early adolescence so it was a good piece of social studies as well. A very sad but heartwarming story.
