A stylish thriller that recalls David Fincher's SEVEN, THE WATCHER is set in the urban landscape of modern Chicago. The story follows Los Angeles transplant Joel Campbell (James Spader), an ex-police detective who has relocated to Chicago in order to escape his past. It appears that a dangerous serial killer, David Allen Griffin (Keanu Reeves), has formed a special emotional attachment to Campbell, luring him to Chicago in order to continue their deadly game of cat-and-mouse. Each game commences when Griffin sends Campbell a picture of a young girl, giving Campbell 24 hours to track her down before she's murdered. After three tragic failures, the stakes are upped when Griffin kidnaps Campbell's beautiful psychiatrist, Polly (Marisa Tomei), mimicking an earlier event that drove Campbell to Chicago in the first place.THE WATCHER is a commentary on modern society's effect on people: making them crudely unable to notice the peripheral people in their daily lives. First-time director Joe Charbanic shoots his film like a music video, using elliptical editing, slow motion, and a postindustrial soundtrack that greatly reflects the Chicago music scene. As the tortured detective, Spader possesses an internal fire that gradually builds in intensity as the film progresses.

David Allen Griffin is a cool killer- time and time again, he chooses a female victim, studies her for weeks till he knows her routine to the smallest detail, makes meticulous preparations using his forensic knowledge to gain entry when she's quite alone, subdues her and administers a long, torturous death. Joel Campbell got so frustrated by his failure to capture Griffin in LA that he quit the FBI, moved to Chicago and remains in psychiatric therapy, unable to function normally. Then he realizes, when opening his mail very late, that a new murder victim is Griffin's, and the killer send him pictures of her. Campbell reports this to the police, but is unwilling to join them in the search, suggesting Griffin is too slick and clever; yet he won't get out of it that easily... All's I can say ... The Worst Keanu Reeves Film Ever Made
NOT! That distinction would go to "Destination Wedding" I would like to beat the snot out of who ever wrote THAT turkey! In "The Watcher" Keanu Reeves plays a pretty boy serial killer who stalks then murders young women! Keanu really shows his self worth as an actor by stepping out of the box and playing the bad guy! Ask any actor or actress how important it is to NOT be pigeon holed into a certain character type.. How many vampire roles did Ian Somerhalder get offered and turned down after Vampire Diaries ended?? Give this movie a shot.. Keanu Reeves portrayal of a bad boy is a nice reprieve from his goody goody image.. Major kudos to Keanu for his dancing scenes during the opening scenes of the movie! He stated a friend forged his signature forcing him to be in the film or face a ... NOT! Underrated
A lot of people don't like this movie, but who cares! It's actually pretty good. Sure you get some horror cliches here and there.. but it's still entertaining.

Keeanu Reeves is a serial killer and Marissa tomei is a therapist and James Spader is a retired fbi agent Spader Chase's Reeves. Unknown to him Reeves follows him every day. Reeves taunts Spader at every turn even kidnapping tpmei in this thriller
