The DMC-FZ20's advanced zoom lens takes you all the way from 36mm wide angle to 432mm telephoto. Shoot open landscapes, zoom in on a room interior, or pull a distant object right up close - all with instant zooming ease. With the FZ20, you get the same capabilities as a single-lens reflex camera equipped with a full set of interchangeable lenses. Use it to explore a new level of photographic expressivity. For example, use normal magnification for most ordinary shots, medium telephoto for portraits, and super telephoto for special long-range shots. The FZ20 even gives you the same capabilities as a super-telephoto lens in the 400mm, F2.8 class - something every serious photographer should have. Remarkably, the FZ20 offers the kind of specifications you get with a big, heavy lens, but in an extremely compact, lightweight package.With most compact zoom lenses, the brightness tends to be lower in the telephoto range. Not the FZ20. Its 12x optical zoom lens delivers F2.8 brightness all the way to full telephoto. This gives you more expressivity and greater ease of use because the exposure value doesn't change even when you zoom out to shoot long-range telephoto shots.The Elmarit lens made by Leica Camera AG of Germany has earned the acclaim of top photographers everywhere. Now some of the same cutting-edge technologies that make this lens so exceptional have been adapted to the digital camera. Presenting the LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens that inherits the traits that make Leica a legend in the camera world. Small in size yet featuring a large, bright aperture, this lens meets Leica's stringent quality standards. In fact, the FZ20 goes a step further by using ED (extra-low dispersion) glass in its lens, which helps minimize the refraction differences among light of different wavelengths. This helps to suppress the color bleeding that often occurs in telephoto shots, giving you crisp, vivid images no matter how far you've zoomed in on your subject.The CCDs used in most digital cameras have much smaller light-receiving areas than film does, so photos tend to have a high depth of field. This means that everything in the photo - including objects in the foreground and background - is in focus. The FZ20, however, takes advantage of its 12x zoom and large F2.8 aperture to offer the kind of expressivity you cannot get with conventional digital cameras. You can snap photos that capture the subject in a clear, sharp focus while giving the background a beautiful soft focus.Use the 4x digital zoom together with the 12x optical zoom and you've got ultra-powerful 48x zooming. That approximates a huge 1728mm lens on a 35mm camera.

    Love, Love, Love this camera

    I've only had the camera for a few weeks now - but I simply love it. It is very easy to use, and most important, takes excellent photos right from the start. Now, I know very little about exposure, lighting, whatever - and I haven't really played with many of the settings - but I was able to zoom in at a swim meet to capture my daughters face while swimming breaststroke - indoors, in a poorly lit area. Got some great team pictures as well. I am so glad that I ended up buying this as a used camera instead of spending $100's on a newer model that probably would have given me the exact same results. This is the perfect camera when you want to take good quality photos, without spending a major fortune. The ONLY drawback that I've had - is the weight. It is heavy, much bigger than a ...

    BEST CAMERA VALUE EVER!

    I have used all cameras from Hassleblads to Nikon and I can say there is no camera that gives any better quality than this 5 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. I currently own two, am bidding on another one right now on Ebay, and have ordered at least 5 more for my friends when they asked me to get them a camera that was the best for the money. I have enlarged two 20X24 inch portraits of my kids from this camera and believe it or not, the images look like they were taken with a Hasselblad camera. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true. The Leica glass lens is to-die-for. It's also an awesome flash camera. If you buy one and don't like it's quality, carefully re-read the manual so you can make it do all that I have said. If you still don't like it out it on Ebay cause I might just buy ...

    Great lens for the price- a bargain

    This camera is now several years old, and so to give it an "excellent" would be inappropriate -- time has passed its features by. However, one can hardly find a less expensive way to obtain a lens of the quality that is here. There used to be a series of ads in the 1950s for a camera which shall go unmentioned, "The lens alone is worth the price." This is precisely why I bought this camera on eBay, and I have not been disappointed. The sensor has enough quality to allow prints at 11 X 14, and the glass simply delivers everything you expect from the Leica name. I liked my own so much, I bought one for my son, who needs to take pix of my grandson, and could care less about cameras. At its current price, this camera is a BARGAIN. And there seem to be more than enough in circulation to keep ...

    Great pictures from an older quality camera

    I bought the camera knowing that it was some what old, but it had some features that appealed to me. First, it had Leica lens which were known for their quality and a type of sensor that was highly rated. Finally, it held 2.8 ff lens aperture through all zoom ranges. I felt that even with a meager five point megapixels and a limited eighty to four hundred ISO, it would take wonderful pictures. When it arrived from the seller, it was in excellent condition and the picture quality, flowers, animals, birds, and people are excellent. The quality and color leads me to believe I can print up to 16x20 prints from it. It is a bridge camera that not only shoots in auto mode, but has manual features like the larger DSLR cameras.
