Mechanics would not want you to know about this book.
This is one of the best do-it-yourself car-repair books I've ever come across. It goes over every category of a car's setup, and the language is devoid of over-technical terms that can confound an average person. Many of the tips in this book had served me in repairing cars, especially my grandmother's 1967 Continental, because it helped to explain in laymen's terms some of the very technical things inside the vehicle-specific shop manual I had for her car, which I still have although the car itself is long gone. I found it to be a valuable tool, and I will now with my current 1966 Continental. True, the book is dated now, serving only for cars built up to around 1981; but in my opinion, it ranks with the car-care greats, to include Deanna Sclar's classic "Auto Repair For Dummies"; and ... This is one of the best do-it-yourself car-repair books I've ever come across. Great for training

Reader's Digest Complete Car Care Manual And Supplement
If you need to know how to do something, anything, get yourself a Reader's Digest manual. And if, like me, the 4-wheeled love of your life is getting up there in years (my darling is a 1979 Pontiac Sunbird), and like me, you don't really know that much about cars but are sick of turning over your whole paycheck to the local mechanic's shop; well, this is the book for you. Because my baby is now over 30 years old I specificly wanted a book that was written back when she was new-the Dummies book is nice but is geared more towards recently-made vehicles-and this Reader's Digest book is just what I was looking for. Lotsa pictures and clearly labeled diagrams and step-by-step instructions-now when I lift the hood I know what everything under there is, what it does, how the systems work and ... If you need to know how to do something, anything, get yourself a Reader's Digest manual. I have no intention of handing over another $30 for an oil change or $100 for a coolant system flush ever again. I just replaced the spark plugs, and I've never so much as handled a spark plug in my life! It took about 5 minutes and it only cost about $12! And yes, she does run just fine now! This is a fantastic resource for anyone with an older car, and is a first-class introduction for anyone who would like to know more about that ton of steel and plastic and glass they drive around every day-and in this economy you need every edge you can get! Check out other Reader's Digest manuals, too!!!!!

Excellent book about auto maintenance
Lots of illustrations and diagrams, very educational for the do it yourselfer or old car buffs.
