In this sequel to Microsoft Fury, you must once again stop the Bion threat against the Coalition of Independent Planets. After the Bion fortress was defeated on planet Fury, the resulting explosion brought about new opportunities throughout the galaxy. Wormholes were created that bridged the gap between planets and allowed for greater commerce and economic prosperity. Not all planets flourished, however. Terran paid the bitter price for waging war against the Bions, one that meant poverty for its citizens. Now in a state of civil unrest and utter despair, Terran is ripe for the picking. Yes, it seems a group of Bion warriors are alive and well and have infiltrated at least six planets in their search for dominance. Is there no one left who can stop them? Fortunately for the Terrans, there is. You are the only hope against impending doom, so you'll have to strap inside a spaceship armed to the teeth with the latest technology available -- the Hellbender. For veterans of Fury³, the Hellbender features a similar compass and navigation system to target objectives, enemies and weapon crates. Three instrument panel and three pilot views are also included, and a total of eleven weapons are at your disposal, ranging from missiles and laser cannons to mines and rockets. The Hellbender also features functional headlights, beacons, and cloaking power that can be replenished by finding energy capsules. Damage reports are received through the ship's onboard computer system (known as E.V.E.) , and each voice clip is performed by Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame. Repair droids also exist that can help fix any substantial problems with your vessel. Your goal is to traverse six planets in an effort to destroy the last remaining Bion threat. Fly through underground caverns, above clouds and more as you take out enemies in the air and on the ground. Hellbender supports 3D graphic cards via Direct3D and features a storyline created by Hollywood script writer Geof Miller. Want to take on a friend or two? Multiplayer games are supported via LAN (up to eight people), Internet (up to four people) or modem (two people).

A Microsoft Classic
Hellbender is a Microsoft Classic for Windows 95/98. It's playable on newer Windows platforms, if you don't mind a few glitches. However, to get the feel of full authenticity and compatibility you must play it on a Windows 95/98 machine. Hellbender was considered as a futuristic flight simulator where you have to complete mission targets to advance to the next level. It was a decent average shooter in it's time, but today it would be rated as very poor (of course). It's graphics are acceptable, but it's nothing to jump up and down with joy about. It's controls are below basic ordinary. It's sound effects are okay, but still needed some work done on them from day 1 of it's release. There are 2 things I don't like about the game... 1) ... There are 2 things I don't like about the game... 1) There are no engine sound effects for your own craft. So if you turn off the annoying continuously looping music, then the game gets real boring really quick. So, if you want to try out this old game just to see how it was, then i advise you to play your own music in the room. 2) If you miss a mission target and destroy the others out of sequence, then the level does not end. You have no way of retrieving the missed target coordinates and it's real easy to get lost when you're distracted by drones that draw you away from the target on purpose. It's tempting to destroy everything in sight, and fun to chase the drones around, but sometimes you just have to refrain from doing that. Overall the game is good for classic game exploration. It also offers a good challenge depending on your mission target sequence success. But, if you're not into strategy and following mission briefing instructions, then the game is going to get boring really fast and you're going to hate Hellbender. However, once you get the hang of it, the game begins to become rather easy. Personally, I'm terrible at flight simulation, so I have to practice alot before I can get anywhere.

Hellbender is a sequel to Terminal Reality and Fury3. It's a great game for lovers of flight simulations and sci-fi. The game slaps you in the cockpit of a space fighter and sets you loose on a planet with plenty of stuff to blow up. Good enough, even the controls are fairly decent. All you need is a good basic joystick or a mouse and your ready. There are plenty of targets to shoot at, and missions tend to have several goals to keep things interesting. You can zoom in close to the ground without fear of crashing, since the Hellbender levels itself out at ground level. Or you can fly above the clouds to avoid ground fire and take on other fighters in the peaceful serenity of a black void. Even with these new elements, as well as the expected new arsenal of weapons and enemies, ... Hellbender is a sequel to Terminal Reality and Fury3. Frame rates are pretty poor on most systems even in low-res, and in hi-res they're just appalling. Some new effects, such as rain and lightning, clutter the screen without being effective. This game engine is getting old, however, despite all that this game has a few die-hard fans. There's just something about old games that never fade.

Childhood favorite
Loved it as a kid and just wanted some old memeral games to play came in quickly and started playing as soon as I got it. Thanks for bringing that old memory back
