Stunning!
A certain contender for album of the year. AQn neclectic mix of blues, jazz and alt country all made one glorious mass by Lizz Wright's voice, which had elements of Norah Jone sand Tracy Chapman, but is probably closest to Cassandra Wilson or Anita Baker, smooth and soulful.. Only (slight) criticism is that it could be said to be a bit one paced, but with songs and interpretations of this quality, who cares? Standouts are 'My Heart', probably the most upbeat song with great call and response chorus towards the end, 'I idolize you', a great Ike Turner song with its dirty electric guitar solo and jazzy piano runs, and the yearning 'Speak your heart' Sensational!!A certain contender for album of the year. Lizz Is AWESOME!!!
I have been a Fan of Lizz Wright since her debut CD "Salt" I think Lizz keeps it real on this latest CD & I was amazed that she continues to sing with such conviction and her Voice sounds better than ever, On *My Heart* the calipso-style beat is uplifting and she makes it work, the songs are thankfully longer so you get to enjoy it more, this CD is alot like Salt because she goes back to her roots and in *I Idolize You* you can feel how Lizz sings from the heart. This is such a beautiful collection! I have been listening to Lizz's music for some time. I finally got an opportunity to see her live in Miami last month in April 2018. She was like a fresh breath of air sweeping through the downtown Miami amphitheater! Be sure you get tickets to see her when she comes to a town near you. But in the meanwhile, purchase this CD and her other ones too...they will give you a introduction to what you will experience when you see her live in concert!
