The film revolves around Berry's 60th birthday concert given in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, with guest appearances in the concert and the film by Etta James, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Robert Cray, Julian Lennon, and Linda Ronstadt. Other interviews include legendary musicians Bo Diddley, Little Richard, the Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, as well as Bruce Springsteen, Roy Orbison, and John Lennon. A pioneer of the idea of singer as songwriter also, as well as a leader in the infancy of rock 'n' roll, Berry is shown as never before in this revealing, touching documentary.

A must see (and own) for all music lovers.
"If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'." John Lennon That quote shows how one of the greatest (in my humble opinion) song writers of all time viewed the contribution of Chuck Berry to what we call Rock and Roll. When I first watched this movie in the theater with my Dad in the late 80's I still didn't realize what an influence Chuck was to this first wave (and subsequent waves) of the British invasions which were my formative years of music appreciation. This box set will bring this outstanding film (can you tell I liked it) to a brand new younger audience. The digital remastering of the sound (5.1 dts) and the HD picture are awesome, this slice of history shines in a whole new light with 3 DVD's chocked full' special features, we get to see ... And how a depression era baby takes these baby boomers to the cleaners during the filming of this documentary (of which he is also a producer of) about him. The full interviews from the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Sam Phillips, etc. are essential viewing for any aspiring rock aficionado. The "making of" shows how organic something like a documentary film has to be to get a great film, maybe you would even want to watch this before the actual film itself? It's a toss up, just make sure you watch it. And all for under $25.00. If you have any doubts I hope I helped to convince you to make this purchase. Hail!Hail! Chuck Berry! and he's still rockin' once a month in ol' St. Lou.

a pure genius wrapped up in this utterly charming character
The last track of Disc 3 worth its price in gold to behold regarding the genius of this utter character-wish it had been undertaken from the beginning all by black folk but so it goes-still an eye opener about how Chuck was bamboozled from the very beginning but bounced back and would not be gotten down-his warm personality offset being obsessed by the shrill cast of $ vipers from those initial days never left more than a quarter inch behind to the grave...but pure genius has to be the final stroke of the pen of judgement.
