Hot-tempered, self-centered, part-Irish Southern beauty Scarlett O'Hara, played to the teeth by Vivien Leigh, loves the gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). Smug, rebellious, honest, blockade-running profiteer Rhett Butler, portrayed gracefully and naturally by Clark Gable, loves Scarlett. Ashley, who is also in love with Scarlett, marries his genteel cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland) because he believes that their quiet similarities will create a better marriage than Scarlett's passion. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Rhett and Scarlett at their first encounter and continue throughout Scarlett's first two marriages. Scarlett and Rhett finally wed, but Scarlett continues to pine for her beloved Ashley. Set against the Civil War and Southern Reconstruction, this tragic love quadrangle offers the burning of Atlanta and fields of wounded Confederates as part of its lush scenery. Meticulous backdrops, glorious sunsets, numerous silhouettes, and the ultrasaturated Technicolor film create a hyperreal vision. The romantic score is every bit as lush and dramatic as the photography, borrowing folk melodies from the Old South to make the tragic war concrete. Heavy nostalgic tones pervade the often witty dialogue and larger-than-life charms and faults of the leads. GONE WITH THE WIND stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed.

    Gone With The Wind Is Still Tops After 70 Years

    Even after 70 Years Gone With The Wind is still one of the greatest films in motion picture history. Even for those people who don't like older films this movie captures it audience with amazing special effects and great acting. Now this 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collection comes with great extra items to add to any collector of this film. For example all of the added DVD extra hours of behind the scenes and letters from the movie studio talking about filling the role of Ashley. This collection is for any person who loves classic movies, and for those Gone With The Wind Collectors everywhere. This DVD set fills the bill and provides a great value.

    Must have if you were a fan of gone with the wind

    I am a very big fan of gun with the wind and knew I had to have in my collection. I’m very pleased with the extras that were included a must have a fan of the film

    Excellent Collection for the GWW Lover!

    I bought this as a gift for a Gone with the Wind fan, and I heard back right away on its greatness. Aside from the full movie DVD's (which is still a great film to watch), there are many extras elements of the movie's history in this collection, like pictures and documents related to the movie that collectors and movie lovers will find fascinating. It also came in a lovely box that can keep the collection together nicely, or be reused. All in all, this is an excellent product for anyone GWW Lover, or Older Movie Fan.

    Gone With The Wind

    Of course this movie is an all time Classic. And shows how people were affected by the hard times, even people that were wealthy in the beginning. It does present I think a great decpiction of the times. And Scarlett was a true Lady of the South, but shows strength that would do any one proud. This is truly Clark Gable at his best !!! There is no way you can not be wrapped up in this movie even tho it is a lengthy one. I'm not much of a writer, obviously, but I can say this. I have read the book and watched to movie at least once a year for many, many years.

    Great buy, good product.

    Great product for fans, or those just diving in for the first time. This 4 Disc collection features 2 discs containing the film; and two bonus discs with a plethora of bonus material. Perfect for those wanting an affordable special edition of this film without the hefty price tag that accompanies better versions. Bonus book has some nice artwork and important info about the movie. A+
