Great product, but the fan is too noisy
I really like this Duxtop 8100MC product and would have given it a 5 star rating, except I bought it primarily to use for hot pot dinners and the fan is way too noisy and irritating to put it on a dining table with guests sitting around it. Other than that it had great power and fine enough control for me (temperature, heating, and timer) and I liked the controls, size, and portability. I did some test hot pot cooking with it and really liked how it worked for cooking. From reviews I read before buying this portable induction burner, the fan noise is apparently a fairly common problem with many brands, but as highly rated as this one seemed to be I was hoping the noise level was tolerable. In the kitchen with other noise around it is tolerable (though still louder than I like it), and ... I really like this Duxtop 8100MC product and would have given it a 5 star rating, except I bought it primarily to use for hot pot dinners and the fan is way too noisy and irritating to put it on a dining table with guests sitting around it. Great Device, like microwaves, this type of cook top will become the new norm.
If you have the right type of pans this thing work great, wrong pans bad results, Cast iron with white enamel coating works best. Have used a 12" skillet and it just fits on the top perfectly without hanging over the edges. But a 10" is the best size pan to use. Also have used an enameled cast iron dutch oven with great results. The temp control is great and works perfect. I would recommend this cook top to anyone who is looking for one. More powerful and quicker heat up than I thought it would be. I have both versions. This is the better for a budget. Heats fast for 90% of all meals.
The planar controls allow for the heated pan to sit over the plastic control panel and slowly damage it. If you prevent this the price and performance are fantastic. Not the best for spaghetti water well over a gallon verses the range. But less than a half a gallon of sauce or other it beats all the other range types. The temperature controls are 20 degree increments but are just what you need. The timer off, is a great set and run option if needed safety. The percentage ON control speeds up starting getting the cooking going but is more prone to burning than the softer temperature controls.The planar controls allow for the heated pan to sit over the plastic control panel and slowly damage it. Great product - performs well
I purchased my first Duxtop induction cooktop over one year ago to use on our sailing yacht, I recently purchased my second one because I can't live without it at home. It's perfect for the boat because it's very safe - there are no flames, no heat coming off the cooktop, easily selectable temperature, a timer, and super easy to clean. It rapidly gets pots/pans up to temperature. The cooktop doesn't get hot, just the pot/pan gets hot. You can put a pot of water halfway on the cooktop and get water boiling and put your hand on the other half of the cooktop and it's not hot. The 140 degree setting is perfect for keeping a pot of chilli or green beans or whatever warm at the correct temperature so food is in the "safe" temperature range. I use the 180 degree setting with a large pot on ... I use the 180 degree setting with a large pot on top when I need an extra crock pot and something is going to slow cook for a long time. The 210 degree setting is perfect when you want to boil - it's not a rapid boil - just a slow boil like cooking chilli for hours without it boiling over or burning on the bottom of the pot. It's nice when cooking something like eggs or fish - if you see the food is cooking too quickly then just push the "minus" button a couple times to reduce the cooking temperature so you don't burn the food, or when it's nearly done and it's going to be another 10-15 minutes before your family gets to the table then just turn the temperature down to increase the cooking time. If you are melting butter or cooking something delicate then temperature selections below 250 degrees are perfect. If you want a good sear on a steak or pork chop then turn it up to 460 degrees - be careful because it gets up to temperature quickly. I use this cooktop nearly every day, it's so much better than using a conventional kitchen stove. My kitchen has a top of the line GE five burner gas stove and a Jenn-Air electric stove. I still prefer this Duxtop cooker most of the time. It's seems to be very well made, I don't know why it doesn't cost more (an old time friend who is a GE employee tells me it's really old technology). Realize before purchasing any induction cooktop that your old pots and pans probably will not work. Generally, if a magnet will not stick to the bottom of the pot/pan then it will not work. There are now aluminum pots/pans with steel enveloped in the bottom that work well. One time in a pinch I put a 9x9 steel brownie pan (with some water in it) on the cooktop and then put my old aluminum (expensive) pan in that 9x9 pan - perfect for melting chocolate. The only potential drawback is the safety feature of it staying on for only 170 minutes. That's only an issue if I am using it like a slow cooker and want it to run for 4-6 hours. I just have to remember after 170 minutes to turn it on again. I always recommend this to my friends - it's a useful and wonderful addition to any kitchen. Dr. Bob ps - I just purchased one of those copper coated frying pans from a tv advertisement and it works really well

A kitchen wonder
This is my second Dux Top induction cooker. Liked the first one and thought it would be easier to prepare a meal with two of them. Very fast, easy to use, and easy to clean. Since we have had these units we hardly use the stove anymore. The cost of using these induction cook tops is quite a bit lower than using the stove top range. We really are glad we have purchased these units.
