Product Information

In this adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved stories, players embark on a quest that will lead them through the events of all three films, in the roles of custom characters they create. Developed by EA's Redwood Shores studio, Lord of the Rings: The Third Age separates itself from its predecessors with its turn-based RPG format -- it has been noted by designers that those who have played Final Fantasy should find the system familiar. Also notable is the ability to ride a horse or a warg in combat, both of which demand special skills.<br><br>Visiting locations from all three movies, such as Khazad Dum, Helm's Deep, Osgiliath, and Minas Tirith, players will interact with both heroes and villains as they travel across Middle-earth. At times, they will encounter scenarios that may tempt them to cross over from the side of Good, and join the forces of the evil Sauron. Aside from the main storyline, optional side quests are included, designed to allow players a more personalized experience with the game.

    The Definitive "JRPG" Experience on Xbox

    Yes, The Third Age is developed by a western studio, but both the turn-based combat system and map traversal are done in the style of a Japanese Role Playing Game. A lot of care went into this games development and it shows in the graphics, story/pacing, and characters. The difficulty spikes can be a bit jarring at times but Third Age makes up for that with a VERY generous leveling system. Lord of The Rings: The Third Age is a MUST PLAY for every RPG lover, and the closest NTSC & PAL Xbox owners will get to a "true JRPG experience," on the system.

    One of the most engaging and exciting LotR games

    This game captures you from the start with it&apos;s graphics, plot and battle system. There are a lot of options for character development, armor and weapons. I have played through most (if not all) of the LotR games and none of them really kept me coming back. This game also offers something unique that the others don&apos;t; you can play both good and evil sides. This was a unique and fun feature. I wish that the evil side was more developed. It&apos;s main goal is just beat it to get weapons and additional items (which is nice, but they could have made the evil side into a much more developed games). Overall, one of my all-time favorite games and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Great Game

    This is a great game! My copy arrived with a crack in the case, but the disc was clean and worked perfectly.

    Great gift for LoTR fans!

    I bought this for my girlfriend to help occupy her downtime. It's not too frustrating a game, which is a plus-as she and I both believe games are meant to be stress relievers and not the cause of more stress! She's enjoyed the story and the characters thus far. She has barely been able to put it down since she received it a few days ago and thus far she only got stuck by fluke once. The characters might be fairly stereotypical, but there's variety and if you enjoy the movies and enjoy RPG type games with a low difficulty, then this should be a game you'd enjoy.
