À propos de ce produit

Product Information

When Jose Canseco burst into the Major Leagues in the 1980s, he changed the sport -- in more ways than one. No player before him possessed his mixture of speed and power, which allowed him to become the first man in history to belt more than forty home runs and swipe more than forty bases in the same season. He won Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and a World Series ring. Canseco shattered the mold of the out-of-shape baseball player and ushered in a new era of superathletes who looked like bodybuilders, made outrageous salaries, and enjoyed rock-star lifestyles. And the ticket for this ride? Steroids. Behind the gaudy stats and the glamour of his public life, Canseco cultivated a secret just about everyone in MLB knew about, one that would alter the game of baseball and the way we view our heroes forever. Canseco made himself a guinea pig of the performance-enhancing drugs that were only just beginning to infiltrate the American underground. Anabolic steroids, human growth hormones -- Canseco mixed, matched, and experimented to such a degree that he became known throughout the league as "The Chemist." He passed his knowledge on to trainers and fellow players, and before long, performance-enhancing drugs were running rampant throughout Major League Baseball. Sluggers scooping up pitches at their ankles and blasting them out of the park, pitchers cranking fastballs inning after inning -- Canseco showed the players how to customize their doses to sculpt the bodies they wanted, and baseball as we know it was the result. Today, this issue has crept out of the closet and burst into the headlines as players balloon to herculean proportions and hundred-year-old records are not only broken, but also demolished. In this shocking memoir, Canseco sheds light on a life of dizzying highs and debilitating lows, provides the answers to questions about steroids that millions of fans are only now beginning to ask -- and suggests that, far from being a passing trend, the steroid revolution is only a taste of things to come. Who's juiced? According to Canseco's authoritative account, more than you think. And baseball will never be the same.

This item came quickly and was just as described. Very nice pin, good quality, and absolutely worth the money, but the internal packaging was odd; an old Hot Wheels box with scotch tape…? Still worked well lol

  • PRETTY MUCH WHAT I EXPECTED

This book is written in the voice of Jose Canseco, so it kind of sounds like a high school boy wrote it. Canseco brings up some interesting points about steroids and why he feels that every athlete should take a balanced diet of steroids and hormones. If you are looking for juicy gossip on players who Canseco has informed or injected with steroids it is there, but you have probably already heard of the bigger names mentioned through the media in the past couple of years. This makes it less of a shock because most of the information on steroid abuse of major stars has already been leaked all over the radio and television. It is interesting to hear how Canseco feels he single handedly brought steroids to baseball by mentioning all the major players in the steroid scandals. Along with ...

  • Juiced by Jose Canseco

If you love baseball you will appreciate this book. It details how at the time it was a good idea to use steroids. After the baseball strike lots of fans were turned off by baseball. The main thing was to get fans to return to the game and with the players doing amazing plays this is what helped to bring the fans back. So there was lots of looking the other way by the team owners and coaches; the main thing was the bottom line to make money. Since I am only the Mom of a real baseball fan, I am not sure how the naming names is perceived by a real baseball fan. In all I think the book was very good and it gave a lot of insight to all the different things that happen on and off the field.

  • Eye Opening Book!

Love Jose Canseco or hate him -- I got to tend to believe all that he wrote in his much maligned book. The one thing that really sold me on his truthfulness was the fact that he said he'd take a lie detector test to prove all / and challenged anyone he named in the book to do the same. I bought the book out of curiosity and am glad I did -- I now think that he (Canseco) is probably the only one of the bunch that is telling the truth!

  • It's OK if you want to know who did roids!!!

I liked the book, but it seemed like Jose was just really trying to call out and tell on everyone that he thought had done steroids. I think that he's just mad because he is just a washed up old power hitter, who probably wouldn't have hit as many homers as he did without the PEDs. It does however shine a little light on the darker side of America's favorite past time.

  • Great read.

This book is GREAT and I am happy to have read it. Because I am an avid baseball fan, this was a good read for me to be engaged in and follow through with following my very first professional baseball player crush at such a young age, then learn about his book so it was a must read for me. I am happy to have it in my own library so I can now read it again when I want to.
