    Katsu & Mifune - Zatoichi vs Yojimbo a great pairing.

    Shintaro Katsu ..... Great is not enough to describe the man. And matched with Toshiro Mifune, each man fills the screen with their presence and bravado. There is always a moral lesson with Zatoichi. And once again... life passes thru his hands. A not to be missed chapter.

    Great potential as two great samurai legdens meet

    I bought this movie not knowing what to expect. I thought it was going to be bad, average, or a comic misrepresentation of the samurai genre.well, it turned out to be average. i would recomend this to only BIG Zatoichi or yojimbo fans because its not mainstream by far. the only problem i had with the movie was the portraile of Yojimbo as a greedy drunk, but i got over it. one plus to this movie was the well done translations and sidenotes at the top of the screen to expain some facts and figures. overall, this movie had it's good parts, but in between, there was little if no new ideas braught to the table.

    Well worth it.

    This is one of the best in the Zatoichi series and one of the better Yojimbo efforts. I first saw it alittle over 25 years ago at an "Arts Theater". Very little, comparatively, even in more "modern" times, has even been attempted by US or Chinese productions to rival the sword play found in both series mentioned above. So this particular feature is (or can be) a great introduction to both, as it was for me. This film does not have enough Yojimbo sword action for my taste, but the characterization is spectacular. The Zatoichi aspect is, as always, funny and amazing and entertaining (especially the chopped fruit scene). All in all, I still don't know how they made this movie without someone getting hurt. And this is done long before CGI and the like. Again, definitely one of the best ...

    Zatoichi vs Yojimbo

    I first saw this movie when it came out in VHS. Have always been a fan of Toshiro Mifune, though not so much of the blind man. Although it carried the name Yojimbo, it has nothing to do with the original Akira Kurosawa creation, which was an excellent movie. The back drop is nothing new: the usual corrupted government official and gansters fighting against each other. But I think the plot of pitching the Yojimbo, Zatoichi, and the nine-headed- bird kunai(mistranslated as dragon)a shogunate spy is certainly a new twist. And I definitely enjoyed the iaijitsu that Toshiro used to kill the bad guy after he shot his girlfriend. This is particularly good for people who know something about Japanese swordsmanship (iaijitsu, not kenjitsu, and Toshiro did something similar at the end of his other ...

    The Best Meets the Best...

    Toshiro Mifune -Japan's best actor- co-stars in this film with yet another Japanese superstar: Shintaro Katsu. This film portrays the life of a sightless swordman/masseur (Ichi), who moves -and survives- amidst political corruption and intrigue, deceit and treason with the naivete of a child and the resolution of a lion. Mifune plays a seemly aloof character; an irreverent bodyguard who constantly mocks his master. Thrown in the pot are plenty of gold, political upheaval and a beautiful girl. What else does one need to enjoy a good story? It is inevitable that Ichi (Shintaro Katsu) and Yojimbo (Toshiro Mifune) face each other in mortal combat. Great movie of the genre.
