À propos de ce produit

Product Information

In Anthony Minghella's directorial debut, Nina (Juliet Stevenson) is trying to put her life back together following the untimely death of her boyfriend, Jamie (Alan Rickman). She still hears his voice in her head, telling her to lock the back door, or instructing her in the proper way to brush her teeth. Nina gets the shock of her life when Jamie returns to her--still dead, but there in the flesh nevertheless. Just as the two settle back into their comfortable relationship, Nina meets Mark (Michael Maloney), a kind, quirky fellow who is obviously drawn to her. Nina is then caught between two worlds and two men--one dead and from and her past, the other alive and in the present. A supporting cast of mildly eccentric characters adds flavor to this romantic comedy about finding love where and when you least expect it. Stevenson is enchanting as Nina, instilling her with humor and grief simultaneously. Rickman's performance as Jamie, a dead cellist who brings other dead friends to hang out at Nina's flat, is wonderfully subtle and droll.

  • Beautiful, haunting, quirky, intelligent, funny, dramatic film!

This BBC TV film from 1991 is a brilliant piece of story telling. It has been in my top 10 list for many years. The script was written by Anthony Minghella specifically for Juliet Stevenson and superbly shows off this British actress's talents. Alan Rickman as her dead lover and cellist, Jamie, who comes back to her, is also first rate and the scenes between the two of them sparkle with such chemistry! Another standout is the less well known actor, Michael Maloney, who plays the quirky role of Nina's new love interest. The scene with the two of them as they each hop on one foot while telling each other their personal histories is a delight. The secondary leads are also wonderful, including the marvelous Bill Paterson as Nina's boss at the language agency. Music also plays a huge role in ...

  • Truly, Madly, Deeply (DVD, 2001)

This happens to be one of my favorite movies. It's well written and has an interesting, ecletic cast. You could watch it just because you enjoy good movies...but if you've ever lost a loved one...especially a spouse or significant other, it will be especially moving. The movie deals with a person's need for closure. Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson are brilliant as the lead characters. I don't want you to think this movie is just about sadness. There is so much wit and humor sprinkled throughout. You see the lead character deal with all kinds of emotions, sadness, joy, guilt, etc. I decided to buy it because I wanted a second copy. I am often loaning this movie out and I never wanted to risk losing it.

  • A beautiful, affecting film

For me, one of the most misleading comments ever made about a film came from a newspaper review that referred to TRULY MADLY DEEPLY as “the thinking person’s GHOST.” To be fair, they were not the only ones to draw the comparison. But, while this BBC production is indeed intelligent and does concern the aftermath of two lovers parted by death, those are the only truths to be found in such an assessment. For this first film of the late Anthony Minghella is a grown-up, down-to-earth drama about a grief so strong and so lasting that only a return of the departed can soothe the pain. Sensitive, humorous, and focused, the story follows the lovers, exquisitely played by Juliet Stevenson and Alan Rickman, from heartache through reunion to tear-jerking conclusion. The lovely Bach soundtrack is ...

  • A magically realistic portrait of love and loss

My partner told me about this film ages ago and we’ve been trying to find it at a reasonable price for ages which was a surprisingly difficult task. We ordered it and it was delivered promptly and in brand new condition. We sat down to watch it together and I was immediately struck by the honest and raw depictions of grief and real love. Suffice it to say when the film ended we held each other closer than we had in a long time. Amazing film with top notch acting across the board and fantastic writing.

  • Truly Madly Deeply

This is my all time favorite movie: it is funny and sad, witty and poignant. The acting by the two leads was second to none! Forget about "Ghost" (pathetic Hollywood drivel). "Truly, Madly, Deeply" is so much better all around. I was so pleased to be able to purchase the DVD version for U.S. DVD players at a very reasonable price. (I had shopped around--some of the asking prices were outrageous.) My VHS copy was starting to disintegrate.
