Affordable Good Quality Hypercardiod
This one had the Hypercardiod capsule, and came with the windscreen and mount with the mic clip. I did two tests with it. 1. With an iRig Pre connected to a Sony ICDUX533 recorder. -- If you know anything about the Pre and recorder, you would know they are small. Very small. That's because I wanted something absolutely lightweight as a recording kit if I needed one. And for indoors, the AUDIX SCX1/HC was the mic I wanted for dialogue. 2. With a Shure FP33 field mixer that provides 70db of gain, but don't worry, you won't need that much. Mic'd from 2.5 feet away (boomed), I had the gain for the mic channel up to 7 (scale of 10), and Master level at 0 (Unity). This created a perfectly sound (no pun intended) recording with the Sony ICDUX533. Again, if you know the Sony ICDUX533, you're ... So, does the Sony PCM-M10. That one records at a higher bit-rate and sampling. I used 24/48 with the M10. The results in both cases were excellent. With the 15mv Sensitivity on the Hypercardiod capsule, you get sufficient reach. But remember, the further from the sound source, the more ambient sound from the room you're gong to pickup, no matter how sensitive a mic is. Unfortunately, with my voice, I get a fair amount of sibilance, despite the fact that the HC capsule is flat in the 3000-9000 Frequency range. But I EQ in post anyway, so spiking down the sibilance without losing presence works successfully on recordings with this mic. Bottom Line: If you're doing any indoor dialogue recording, use a mic with a hypercardiod capsule. But which mic? -- This one! -JoeTheProducer

Great quality Mic for overhead boom recording of actors at a great price
I have a Sennheiser shotgun mic and needed a mic for indoor use with overhead micing of small groups for TV commercials. The Schoeps was too expensive and this was the next best mic. I am very pleased with this mic. It is small, about 20mm thick and a little over 3 inches long. It includes a nice windscreen. I purchased an Auray Suspension Shockmount from B&H. I needed a small rubber adapter to allow the small mic to fit in the shockmount. It works great on my boom pole. When using a boom pole and micing someone from about 18 inches to 36 inches this mic sounds great with great presence and very little background noise. I have used wireless lavalier mics in the past for micing talent, and the Audix sounds just as good as a lav mic. I use the Hyper Cardioid capsule on my mic. The capsules ... Cardioid and Omni capsules are available. This mic needs Phantom power to operate. It doesn't not have an internal battery. I use the phantom power from my Canon C100 camera. I understand that this is a popular mic for drums, but I read that it is the second best mic for overhead boom recording of actors for films and commercials. This is what I use it for. The Audix SCX-one is made in the USA in Portland, Oregon. It is well made and feels durable. The price is very reasonable for the quality. I am very pleased with it and would highly recommend it.

Perfect for Interviews
I bought this for use on indoor documentary interviews and it sounds great! It has a good output level and a very uniform sound. I think it would make a good VO mic, too. It delivers a really professional sound. It is surprisingly small.

Great drum overhead mic.
The SCX-1 is part of Audix' ongoing effort to produce top quality live performance mics at an affordable price. 5 stars are not enough praise for this mic. Great for drum overheads. Don Jacobs, In Concert Audio.com. 646 662 5286.

Great microphone for a great price point.
This microphone is fantastic for what I use it for which is indoor dialogue recording for production. It sounds much better than the cost and it is very rugged. I will always keep this in my mic locker even if I eventually upgrade to a Neumann or Schoeps.
