  • Magellan GPS 315

Why would anyone buy a GPS unit with six year old technology? No bells, whistles or talking heads to direct you, are you daft? No, I purchased this unit because it is dependable, accurate enough for my needs and works every time. This GPS unit was purchased to compliment the one I got back in 2000. I have used them on search missions, search training and world travel. It has also been used as a speedometer in my car to check the accuracy of the factory speedo. If you need basic information like where am I, how did I get here, which way is it back to my vehicle, this is your ace in the hole. It needs batteries, a little time in your hand to assist you in its functions, and a local map if you plan to leave the yard. My training and certification as a Search and Rescue ...

  • Magellan GPS for Aviation

An earlier reviewer gave you a detailed use of the Magellan 315 for his aviation uses that was excellent. I started years ago using the Magellan 320 which I bought new for $60.00 when a local pilot upgraded to a panel mount GPS. All I need in my flying is information on direction and distance to a user defined waypoint and estimated time enroute at my ground speed to the waypoint. Using this information, I have an accurate way to estimate risk in completing any given flight. The only problem I have is entering waypoints since I usually have to fly over them at least once before they are in the database. I carry two of these receivers which I have purchased from ebay sellers since they are reliable and cheap enough to own several and they work very well, These receivers are also a great ...

  • Magellan GPS 315 GPS Receiver.....great little receiver

Bought this item to see if I would be interested in getting involved in geocaching. I really like using the device, although there are other devices that will get you closer to what you are looking for, the 315 will get you in the ballpark. As an entry level device, I would really recommend it for beginners and if you are looking to get one for the kids to play with and learn on. We had a great time geocaching, and if you are looking for an affordable device to give it a try, I would recommend starting with this model and go up from here after you find out what all features you would want in a more expensive handheld gps. Great compass, easy to load waypoints, large fonts, easy navigation through the screens. I just wish it would get you closer than 30' radius of the caches. HAVE ...

  • Great for hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

I bought this item to use basicly for geocaching. It worked good to lead me to the cache zone within a few feet. I soon found out that I needed a few more features like computer connection through usb and in order to do that I would need more items to go with this unit. So after some research I decided to go to the explorist series. The 315 works great for hikeing, camping, fishing, hunting. It is easy to use and quickly finds position. For the price a great unit to get you from point A to point B.

  • Magellan GPS color trak

Upon Unpacking the Magellan GPS color trak the first thing I noticed was the weight, Its pretty heavy for a hand held unit also the screen is long and narrow , not a problem just looks a bit strange. The 30 hours run time shown on the battery meter wasnt even close as after about an hour on a new set of lithiums it was down to 19 hours. I was fairly impressed with its ability to aquire and hold signals inside the car. This unit was the first to have a color display but it really is of no practical use because it lacks mapping, I would guess that it was just a marketing thing everybody wants to be the first to offer something. performance was good on all functions and features. controls are easy to use and spaced out enough to use with gloves. overall it is a good performer with a rugged ...
