The Great War rages on. The GTA and Vasudans are putting all they can into destroying the threat of the Shivans, a dark species who is out for destruction. Only extreme effort by the GTA and Vasudans combined will result in a victory.<br><br>Fast-forward to now, the year is 2367. The Great War has apparently ended. The endless line of bombers, fighters and capital ships, the fighting has stopped. Now the Vasudans and the GTA can re-build there meek forces to bring themselves back to prosperity. Although, on the outskirts of the Gamma Draconis System, your most feared nemesis has returned and they are wondering what happened to their scouting party...<br><br>You must now ready yourself for a new and more aggressive swarm of enemy forces that are not very pleased about your resistance. Over 20 new weapons will help you disrupt, destroy and intercept this increased enemy threat. Also, many new enemy devices will be encountered such as large beam weapons that can cut a large Capital Ship in two. You'll need your weapons though, as over 70 new ships are present in the game and they are much bigger and badder than before. Once you've completed the tutorial, go try your luck on the campaign that features 30 new missions that will challenge you like never before. Missions range from hit & run operations to large scale assaults, where you can command up to 11 squadmates in unison.<br><br>Freespace 2 also includes the "FRED 2" mission editor feature, where you'll be able to edit your own single-player and multi-player missions so that they are as intense or varied as you see fit. Speaking of multi-player, there is an extensive multi-player mode, where up to 9 people can go up against each other in teams or straight out for the crown of being the best Internet player.<br><br>You thought Descent: Freespace -- The Great War was a challenge, you thought Descent: Freespace -- Silent Threat was as intense as it got, but you ain't seen nothing yet. Get ready for the real battle for your life!

    Free Space

    It is a very intense space aircraft shooting game were I can get lost in the stars and shoot down some bad aliens.

    One of the last greats gasps of a dying breed

    You liked the first one? Never played it? Well either way, if you like fast paced space battles this is certainly a must. It's a bit hard to come by these days sure, but it's worth the effort and you'll find yourself playing it more than once since it does branch here and there allowing you to screw up on occasion or do something differently. This is one of the unsung heroes of the genre, and really is worth your time if you are a fan of space sim. There are too few great space combat games out there not to give this one a chance to win your itchy trigger fingers and sixth senses.

    BEST space sim ever!

    Freespace 2 is probably the BEST space flight combat sim EVER. If You liked Star Wars X-wing and Tie Fighter or Wing Commander, then this is the game for you. Beautiful visuals, great textures, compeling storyline - it just has it all!. Try to find "Descent: Freespace The Great War" as a prequill to this game...also very cool. With a thriving online community centered around upgrading and modding the source code, there's more in the future for this game!

    Great game!

    Sorry about the wait. When I first got the game, it was having a lot of problems installing. It took me three tries just to get it up and running. However, when I finally got it installed, it became one of my favorite games ever. The graphics were great, the arsenal was awesome, and the storyline was cool. It is definatly better than Freespace 1, and I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a space sim.
