    Sweet Land DVD

    I liked this movie because the characters are true to life. My mother came from a German farm family, and my father came from a Swedish one. In the movie, Inga comes from Germany and Olaf comes from Norway. Every line and their delivery were on pitch. The farm details weren't right. The corn shocks should have been thrown on a hay wagon instead of a grain wagon. A corn cultivator would never be kept in front of a farmhouse. A wife with nine kids wouldn't have time to drive the tractor. A teapot seemed to small for filling a bathtub with hot water. A typical farm wouldn't have a pump between the house and barn and another in the house. To top it off, there were no outhouses. I only noticed the wrong wagon and the misplaced cultivator on the first viewing. The movie is a good one ...

    Moved me to tears

    Her explanation of her relation to God says everything to me. She WAS an Angel and he one, also. The visual of them harvesting all that grain failed the believably test but that was the only 'fail' of the film. Credit where credit is due, folks. Fell in love with all the 'right' characters and shed tears whenever I think of this film (like Heart is a Lonely Hunter)

    It's definitely one to own!!!

    I first rented this from NetFlix. About halfway through it, I turned to my wife and said, "This reminds me of a Will Weaver story!" And sure enough, when the credits rolled, my feeling was confirmed: it was based on Will Weaver's short story "A Gravestone Made of Wheat." (I hadn't read it in several years.) We loved the movie. We thought the casting/acting, photography, story line, and character development were superb, and we immediately bought it so we could see it again and show it to friends. Though the movie doesn't follow the story exactly, it remains indeed faithful to its heart and spirit. I'd recommend it to any fan of Will Weaver's fiction, and I'd recommend Will Weaver's fiction ("Red Earth White Earth" and ...

    One of the best films I've ever seen. WOW great story

    I was captured by the simple story. It was so wonderfully unexpected, it's hard to describe. I was curious because my parents were from northern Minnesota, so I watched. Yesterday I told my sister to watch it, and I told her it was like THE NOTEBOOK, but not really, only that its a story told in flashback. What the movie does is capture the essence of young love, caught up in the mild mannered grit of the rural life in the early 1930s, and a sense of community. As a movie lover, it met all my needs as a viewer on so many levels, which may sound sort of weird, but it was simply a great story told well, leaving me completely satisfied.     One You Will Remember

    I had heard what a lovely picture this was and so I ordered it. I was not disapointed. Wonderful charactors throughout. Set in the early 1900's but opening in more modern time. It was a time of war with Germany and although there is nothing about the war you see the mistrust America had for those from that country. It is a story of a mail order bride who is supposed to be Norwegin but instead is German. The film shows how distrust abounds. It also shows how love grows and finally acceptance. Some of the dialoge is in German and Norwegin but no sub titles. However, with jestures and inflection you understand every word. You will laugh, you will cry or at least be touched. You will remember the music and you will tell your friends about it. Hope you enjoy it!
