    Don't buy this version--er, unless you want to buy mine cheap.

    I bought this DVD set of Piece of Cake to replace my old VHS version because I liked the production so much. This Masterpiece Theater set has horrible sound quality to the point that most of the time I couldn't understand the dialogue. I finally just gave up and put the disks back in the box. A real disappointment.

    Not good enough to keep in our library.

    This flick has some good footage of aircraft but the story execution was dry and underdone. We watched it once but voted not to see it again. It failed our library standards.

    Piece of Cake

    A piece of cake, the phrase is appealing, asnap ,a sure thing, easy.. this gritty piece of fiction,is anything but. written bya man who should know!The authentic nature of the characters, the situations the history, attitudes are real to distraction. One is brought into the world of a combat pilot, in that moment of changefrom peacetime to war. From bravado to the recognition of wartime hell! the innocent, the cynic, the hopeful, the silk glove gent and the veteran who knows but isn't believed. the mosaic of the squadrons world being wittled down, life by life is unremitting production values are british outstanding or as the brits say brilliant, flying scenes are fabulous, planes from BATTLE OF BRITAIN movie stock, historically sound. Only flaw Spitfires instead of what would have been ...

    THE BEST WAR MOVIE EVER MADE

    I bought this for my dad who thought that it was out of print-he owns it on VHS, but wanted a DVD copy. He was going to try to copy it to DVD. My dad is a retired Navy pilot and he says this movie has some of the best air scenes he has ever seen on screen. I've not seen it, but my dad highly recommends it, tells all his friends to watch it and I will watch it with him the next time we visit. My dad is a tough critic-most movies he watches don't have a lasting effect with him and mostly he can't even remember much about them a week later. This movie is clearly one of his all-time favorites along with the Lonesome Dove original mini-series. OK, and the civil war series which was done by the History Channel I think-maybe it was PBS.

    Piece of Cake - - - top notch.

    I very much like the portrayals of interplay between the Hornet Squadron aviators; there were a number of very subtle currents in the interaction, and some perfectly blatant, as well. The only improvement I can think of would be inclusion of Alistair Cooke's opening and closing commentary for each episode. The snarky references to 'yanks', they never showed up for the first 'do' until it was nearly over and so on (when the AEF arrived in France, the French were beaten and the British were being driven into the sea - - - yeah, it was almost over, alright), squadron leader Rex's nose being put completely out of joint by the appearance of Chris Hart, Rex's society equal and a far superior individual, altogether very, very well worth viewing.
