The basis for the 2000 film starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie, 1974's GONE IN 60 SECONDS is a revered cult classic, mostly because of the delirious 40 minute car chase that concludes the film. Directed by its star, writer, producer, and stunt driver H.B. Halicki, GONE IN 60 SECONDS was a drive-in phenomenon when it was originally released. In it, Maindrian Pace and a group of his colleagues race to steal 48 specific makes and models of cars in a week, which will net them $250,000 if they succeed. However, the group runs into trouble trying to jack a 1973 Mach 1 Mustang, and Pace ends up being chased through seven counties by throngs of police in what is probably the most exciting and ambitious car chase ever filmed.

Classic Mustang Movie Fan
I saw this movie when I was 7 years old and fell in love with Ellenor ( Ford Mustang Mach 1). When I was a teenager I wanted to find a car like Ellenor and I did. After all these years I still have the car and now I have the Original Gone In 60 Seconds Movie in my collection. Another great thing about this movie is the car crashes. I've never seen any other movie that had alot of car crashes. This movie is for sure a CLASSIC.I saw this movie when I was 7 years old and fell in love with Ellenor ( Ford Mustang Mach 1). This is the granddaddy of all car chase and crash with something like 60 cars wrecked in 30 minutes. Plot is bare bones, a client in South America demanded a whole lot of cars to be stolen, cleaned up and sent to the docks for shipment in record time. For simplicity, each of these is assigned a womans name, and all are collected, except one--Eleanor, the 1973 Mach I Mustang, which is finally grabbed at the International Towers in Long Beach, but the grab in witnessed by undercover cops in a '71 Mercury Montego who were tipped off by a disgruntled employee. And the chase is on! One crash is cinema verite, as the producer, H.B. Halicki, crashes into a light standard on the LA freeway at 100 mph- this was NOT intended tohappen in real life. The movie was shot primarily in Long Beach/Torrance/Carson, with the co operation of civic officials (Mayor of Carson), car dealers (see te incredible scene of the Mustang crashing cars on tne lot and INSIDE the service department of Moran Cadillac) and watch a 73 Challenger being stolen off the lot of Prince Chrysler Plymouth in Inglewood and being chased, whilst onthe hook of a tow truck, thru LA, and then being unhooked fast and crushed at a scrapyard, really good stuff) Some humor too, to be found....(at the end especially) Very good period dress (70's), absolutely authentic with the cars, and lots of good car chases and crashes (especially on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, though in that one most of the cars in the chain collision were 67s or older)to save some money. Absolutely great! Though the "bit" about the female employee Pumpkin's love life and the song was a bit sappy, as was the Constant Country KFOX DJ following the chase. Actor playing Maindrian Pace was excellent though. DEFINATELY worth collectying this one. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE followup Nicholas Cage/Angela Jolie/Robert Duvall movie of the same name which was garbage, no plot, dialogue, car chases except a couple of computer enhanced crashes and a phony jump scene on the Vincent Thomas bridge.

not the same movie
The original "gone in 60 seconds" is a good movie. It's different than the famous 2000 remake with Nicolas Cage and Angeline Jolie but it's worth watching to see the car chases.

Blast from the Past
This is a great "period piece" There is so much '70's nostalgia! This film, although very low-budget, is MUCH better than the remake (aren't they all)

need for speed
need the rest of his movies now. trailers are included in directors copy. the original movie had over 40 minutes of real stunt driving. that remake had only 10 min cut and edited and a lot of CGI.. you cant make movies like these anymore. its not allowed.
