The adjustable focal length and aperture help you achieve excellent clarity while capturing your subjects. This zoom lens is compact and easy to carry. Unlike many digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) lenses, this lens fits onto compact digital cameras, which lets you achieve amazing magnification with a fairly basic camera setup. The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm lens offers a similar image quality to 80-300mm lenses for analog 35mm cameras. However, as it is compatible with digital cameras, it is a fantastic option for beginner photographers. Simply mount the lens on a compatible model and take excellent pictures without adding many other accessories. To adjust the focal length on the Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 ED lens, simply rotate the zoom ring to zoom the lens in and out. Although it is classified as a telephoto lens, you can use it for a variety of purposes. The 40mm focal length is actually smaller than the 50mm length required for a standard shot. This lets you take a wide-angle zoom shot, which takes in more of the background without having to step back from your subject. This comes in handy while taking landscape shots. Very good value, if you can work with the limitations.
This lens represents a remarkable value. It's sharper than I expected, especially when closed down one or two stops. My copy gets sharper zooming past about 70mm, and seems to stay fairly sharp all the way to 150. I wouldn't expect it to hold up under any kind of rough treatment, or bad weather. It's also very light weight. If you can work with the limitations (in particular the small max aperture) it's well worth having. I have no doubt that the Olympus Pro zoom is better, but I'm not sure yet how invested I want to be in this system, so for me this is a good compromise. The photos shown are taken from the extreme corner of the frame, from left to right they are at 40mm f5, 40mm f7.1, 96mm f4.9, and 96mm f6.3; all were taken with a tripod mounted camera. Cheap kit lens with decent image quality.
I bought this lens as factory refurbished ex-display. Overall it looks good and was packaged nicely in a plastic bag and bubble wrap tucked inside a factory -like box bearing Olympus logo. Sold by an authorised seller as well. Unfortunately, the lens itself did not look pristine. While reasonably tight and clean outside it had some smear marks on it's front element that looked as if fingerprints were rubbed of in a hurry. Lenspen took good care of that, but on closer examination in bright daylight I discovered a small lint particle stuck to inside of front element and slight fogging ( contamination?) closer to outer edge of one of the inside elements. no way to get there without lens disassembly, and I am not fancy doing it myself. One cannot be too picky when it goes about a used lens ... I bought this lens as factory refurbished ex-display. And this is exactly what I saw in my field test. I purchased the lens to be used with Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1. The camera recognised the lens and worked with it just fine. Images taken through the lens were good, with natural colours, decent contrast and acceptable overall sharpness that could be improved a lot in some image processing software, for example Adobe Lightroom. Image quality overall is not stellar, but what can be expected with plastic body kit tele-zoom. Definitely better in middle third of focal range ( i.e 80-120mm) than closer to extremes.Focusing can be slow and hesitant at long end of the zoom - but that has to do with the camera as well. All in all, lens lives to the tests and reviews that can be found all over the net. It is also feather light so it won't make the whole set much heavier while widening the camera's capacity a lot. Definite keeper for me.

Worth it to own despite some compromises
Buy this lens for its light weight, small size, and useful range. It is pretty good all the way to about 135mm. Racked out fully, I found it hard to focus sharply on small details that I was reaching for. I have used this lens with both the EM1-iii and Pen F with the same result. However, there is no other better option I have found for a small, light kit with this kind of range. Some compromise has to be expected. For casual snapshots and people pictures it is a lens you will likely use a lot, and you are likely to use it simply because you are willing to carry it. The useful hood can be stored on the lens in reverse to save space in the bag or pocket.Buy this lens for its light weight, small size, and useful range. It is pretty good all the way to about 135mm. Olympus Micro 4/3 Digital ED 40-150 F4.0-5.6 R lens
Surprisingly sharp across the 40-150 range. Using with Olympus E-PM2. Not the fastest, so need a tripod if you want to maximize image quality/minimize ASA at high zoom setting, but true to a degree of any high zoom lens. Plastic body, nice and light, but still has a solid feel. Since this is for a micro 4/3 format camera, I would much rather have the weight savings than a metal body.

Easy to pack and carry as it's an exceptionally lightweight lens. Not stabilised, so it's better suited to pen cameras, but is also ok with panasonics and a higher iso, but don't expect blur free photos inside or in low light outside with either camera. In good light, or on a tripod it can produce very sharp photos with minimal stopping down, and has quite nice bokeh. My main disappointments are that the zoom is so stiff that it can't be used during movies, and that Olympus doesn't package it with a lens hood.Easy to pack and carry as it's an exceptionally lightweight lens.
