Eliza Dukshu (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL) stars as Tru Davies in this hip thriller of a drama that is part mystery and part nighttime soap opera. When her coveted medical internship doesn't pan out, Tru reluctantly takes a job on the night shift at the morgue. Her first night there, she hears a recent murder victim calling for help but dismisses it, doubting herself and the veracity of her perceptions. But when she wakes up the next day, she finds that she's stuck in the day before, and endeavors to prevent the murder that only she knows is going to occur. Thus begins her realization of her gift and calling, and Tru embarks on her mission to use her ability to go back in time to save lives and prevent tragedy. Meanwhile, her family is having troubles of their own, as her wealthy and successful older sister (Jessica Collins) battles drug addiction, and her handsome but hapless younger brother (Shawn Reaves) is constantly in and out of trouble. Tru finds herself often coming to their aid as well.

Fantastic
The Fox network really screwed over the supporters of this excellent series. After a vigorous write-in campaign the network decided to return the series in the second half of the (2005 - 2006) television season. That was changed to return in the summer. When it did return, it wasn't advertised very well. I only discovered it accidently just in time for the powers that be to cancel it. In any wise, this series proved that Eliza Dushku could carry a show after years of staring on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as a supporting actress. The premise of the show was fresh. Imagine working in a morgue and having a corpse ask for your help. Then she would go back in time to restart the day, hopefully armed with the information needed to save the person's life. The ... Imagine working in a morgue and having a corpse ask for your help. Then she would go back in time to restart the day, hopefully armed with the information needed to save the person's life. The supporting cast was also great with good chemistry. There was Shawn Reaves who played her somewhat immature brother, Harrison who was privy to her secret and tried to help out at times. Then there was Jessica Collins who played her drug addicted lawyer sister. Still the most interesting storyline that was developing at the time of cancellation involved her father whom it was revealed had murdered Tru's mother partly because she also had the ability to help the dead. He also recruited the villanous Jack Harper (played by Jason Priestley) who could also go back in time but with the intent to thwart any efforts Tru might make to prevent death). The potential for a long run was there but unfortunately, the Fox braintrust blew it again.

Tru Calling should have never been cancelled.
Theres nothing dislikeable about this show. It is awesome and full of great episodes. I have seen alot of Eliza Dushku's movies. Loved her in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She's great in anything she plays in. Even when she was young in True Lies--wonderful actress. There was a great number of dissappointed fans when they cancelled this series in the middle of the second season. They really should consider coming back with a season 3. I bought it cause it is very watchable and addicting. The episodes always has you wondering rather she will get to the people on time or considering she would at times lose a person. When they brought Jason Priestly on the scene, that made it even more suspensful. The battle between the two (death & life) was an excitement trip as to which would win ... Tru-ly Fun To Watch
I missed most of this season on TV but when I did see it, I liked it. While never a big fan of Faith on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" or "Angel The Series", I do like Ms. Dushku's performances in other shows. This is no exception. Now that I get to see the whole series, I like it even more. It's a lot of fun to watch. The scary elements had a nice little creep factor - especially when she was first called and had no idea what was lurking in the darkened morgue. The humor is usually well-placed to lighten the mood properly. And the stories don't always have a completely happy ending. The main character's initial confusion and fear were well-handled and her acceptance of her fate and it's repercussions for her life were well done as well. ... The supporting cast all meshed well and gave a great basis for the humor and the angst that would crop up in the course of a given story. Unfortunately some of these were gone by the short-lived second season. The only fault I had has nothing to do with the DVDs but the show - and mainly in the pilot. The character lives in NYC but tends to literally run around a lot. Why? With taxis so prevalent, I would think she could get a ride crosstown. And if traffic is a problem, there's always the subways. Anyway, all in all, this was a good show that was showing some real potential when Fox yanked it. At least the existing eps are available for us to enjoy. If you're a fan of Eliza Dushku - this is a must-have!

Tru Calling. Series that was cancelled too soon !
Although at first glance this show seems to be a hoaky precursor to the Ghost Whisperer, when one gets into the episodes following the pilot it has a lot of charm to it. The star Eliza Dushka plays the pretty, energetic and pragmatic Tru Davies who has discovered her abilities at helping the recent dead relive their final day and possibly escape their fatal outcome. Her job in the morgue makes it easier for her make her connections with the recently deceased and their plea for help starts her detective work in preventing their deaths. She is not always sucessful but the end result is evident to the viewer. Character developement is done very well and I really have grown fond of them. Her brother is always looking for a quick dollar and wants to uses Tru's gift to pick the winning ... Tru Calling - sci fi with a twist
I saw a couple of these on the scifi channel and really enjoyed the premise of the show. Receiving the season one set and seeing the pilot made it all fall into place and more enjoyable. I don't remember this series on its first run but I would have watched. This is not necessarily a new concept, but going back and making things right appeals to our inner natures. My one dislike is using the actress's looks more than necessary as a plot element.
