Product Information

Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed bestseller Made to Stick . Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie. The rational mind wants to change something at work; the emotional mind loves the comfort of the existing routine. This tension can doom a change effort - but if it is overcome, change can come quickly. In Switch , the Heaths show how everyday people - employees and managers, parents and nurses - have united both minds and, as a result, achieved dramatic results: - The lowly medical interns who managed to defeat an entrenched, decades-old medical practice that was endangering patients - The home-organizing guru who developed a simple technique for overcoming the dread of housekeeping - The manager who transformed a lackadaisical customer-support team into service zealots by removing a standard tool of customer service In a compelling, story-driven narrative, the Heaths bring together decades of counterintuitive research in psychology, sociology, and other fields to shed new light on how we can effect transformative change. Switch shows that successful changes follow a pattern, a pattern you can use to make the changes that matter to you, whether your interest is in changing the world or changing your waistline.

  • Great Book

This is a book that uses a lot of examples to explain how people and organizations are resistant to change and how they can change. The authors used good, non-accademic language so anyone can understand. Not a dry tome but a fascinating book. I would also recommend their other book "Stick, How to make ideas stick"

  • Taking the stress out of change

The book describes you as the leader "the rider" moving your people "the elephant" and setting them up for success" the path". Plenty of examples which may trigger ideas for your own situation. I am told that this book is found on about every executives desk. It is also available in espanol (Spanish)

  • Switch by the Heath brothers: worth every penny

So maybe things are not going so well; maybe you have hit rock bottom. You are finally ready to change the road you are taking. Whatever the problem, Switch is able to help get you from where you are to where you want to be. This is not your average self-help book. The Heath brothers have demonstrated clearly why some of the best laid plans crash and burn, while other, shoestring budget hunches lead to significant and sustainable change. In accessible language with real world examples, they lay out the reasons for successes and failures in our quests to do and be better with the tools at hand. If you are ready to tackle whatever it is that needs to change, in your relationships, your work, or your community, this is the last text you will need to buy to engineer lasting change.

  • Switch the way you try to do change.

Good book, good condition, great value. Reads well. Good stories / examples. Simple and speaks to / motivates the Elephant within us, doesn't just tickle the Rider's brain.

  • Speaks volumne on the elephant, rider and path. Great concept to apply to one's business.

So far the book is setting expectations that I didn't have full understanding. Getting insight knowledge and how compelling we need to know how to address these matters more direct.
