Guitar Hero II continues the strumming sensation that began on PlayStation 2 with a new lineup of songs, added play modes, extra characters, and an assortment of imaginative venues in which to rock out. The underlying interface has undergone a few tweaks from the original, but it still consists of color-coded notes scrolling down the screen as you attempt to play them using the five colored fret buttons and working strum bar on RedOctane's guitar controller. One significant change is that users can select which guitar part they want to play from three choices: rhythm, lead, or bass. <br><br>Cooperative jams have also been added to the multiplayer mode, allowing would-be guitar gods to work together on songs while each playing a separate track. Over 55 songs are included in this version, spanning such genres as classic rock, heavy metal, hair metal, modern rock, and more. Among the featured tunes are "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Heart Shaped Box," "Message in a Bottle," "Free Bird," "Madhouse," and "YYZ." Guitar Hero II is released as a standalone title for owners of the original game or as part of a bundle that includes a guitar controller, stickers, and a shoulder strap.

    Just a few points ...

    Some of the most fun I've had playing games in the last few years was going a couple of rounds of Guitar Hero with a few friends. It's a fantastic party game and if you've never played it, you owe it to yourself to check it out. This, much like SingStar and Dance Dance Revolution, is a title that's going to appeal highly to your "non-traditional" gamer crowd. I could, honestly, fawn over how much fun it is for hours, but there were a couple of things about the 360 version of this game that I wanted to bring up. First, I know there are a ton of you out there that have a PS2 version of this already. If that's the case, I'm not sure there's enough added content out-of-the-box to warrant buying the game a second time. The only difference would be about ten added titles to the soundtrack. Now, ...

    Guitar Hero II for Playstation 2 by Red Octane - FUN!!!

    Guitar Hero II was purchased to compliment Guitar Hero. Our kids love the game and sharing it with their friends. They loved the concept and the songs that were initially introduced in the first game. Like an answer to their prayers...Guitar Hero II allows them and/or their friends to play two different style guitars or even the bass. They like being able to play different courses throughout the songs. They play it over and over again and still play the original game too. Some of them prefer the songs on the first one over the selections on the second version. However, the point is that for the money spent...this is a game they put in again and again to play. The children think the company should give them special recognition because so many of their friends and peers have ...

    Gameplay Improvements

    I have to say, Guitar Hero II's gameplay is way more intuitive than Guitar Hero I, at least in terms of hammered notes. They finally make sense! The co-op multiplayer is pretty great as well, as long as you and your friends are willing to share lead guitar. However, Career Mode really starts to suck towards the end - not because it's necessarily hard (which is really, really is on Hard and Expert) - but because the music gets progressively more and more single-minded. They start you off with sets that are mixed up in terms of era and genre, but, eventually you end up playing the last two sets where virtually every song is a lame metal track.     Guitar Hero bundle (Designed to be a steal)

    I was a little disappointed in this game. While the songs are challenging and interesting, the game malfunctioned more often than anticipated. The first copy I bought had a scratch straight from the box; when exchanged for another copy, it had no scratches but still hitched at a certain point in the game; a third copy revealed the same problem; I'm still waiting for my fourth replacement to jam, but it seems to be working well. I did love how easy the controller was to use and the cool stickers that came with it. I also LOVE the price--you just can't beat the game and controller together for the price of only one or the other. Overall this is a great deal that can't be beat.

    Guitan Hero II may have gliches

    I got guitar hero II for my sister about a year ago and it is a great game and has a cool career mode. I played all the easy and got 5 stars on every one. then i started to play medium and I got four to five stars on each one, but when i got to yyz or called "Jordan" the game stared to freeze on me. I have no idea what is wrong. I cant pass that song so i cant get any new songs. I am hoping that cleaning the disk and clean the ps2 with one of those disk cleaners will help. This is a great challanging game to buy, but hopefully it wont have gliches.
