Riveting Performances by All
Elizabeth Taylor in her prime as the beautiful but frustrated Maggie the Cat is the star of this movie, but she is supported by a cast that is equally as good. Maggie is estranged from her former football star Brick Pollitt (Paul Newman). They are dancing around a secret that he won't even discuss, but she wants to. All of this is simmering on the Mississippi plantation where Brick's father Big Daddy (Burl Ives) is away being tested for cancer. When Big Daddy arrives home with Big Mama (Dame Judith Anderson, who played Mrs. Danvers in "Rebecca"), Brick won't even go to the airport. But Maggie goes and is surrounded by Brick's brother Gooper (Jack Carson), his wife Mae (Madeleine Sherwood) and their five rowdy children. When Big Daddy arrives, he sees ... They have been married for 3 years with no children, while his brother already has 5 and is working on his sixth. And Brick his drinking heavily, has quit his radio announcer sports job, and the tension is heavy between him and his wife. The plot of the movie is similar to "The Little Foxes." All the family except Brick is worrying about Big Daddy's fortune when he dies. And they are flattering him at every opportunity to get in his good graces. What is the secret between Brick and Maggie? Who will get the fortune when Big Daddy dies? These are the questions that the story revolves around. Filmed in color, this movie had no Oscar nominations. But did I say that Elizabeth Taylor was gorgeous in it? And Paul Newman in his prime will turn on the ladies. When the secrets are finally revealed, you will leave the movie satisfied.

Some things to watch on DVD movies
This is an excellent film. I bought the delux edition because it offers insights into the film itself including interviews, commentary etc. One thing I wish to warn the ebay community about. I had to reorder this film because I was concentrating on price and forgot to note that some of the merchants offer versions (generally at lower prices) with Chinese subtitles in yellow yet (as they were on another DVD I ordered "A Place in the Sun). Some you can remove through pressing a button on some DVDs, some you cannot. Also because there are so many non-domestic merchants in this market sector be careful to check that the DVD you are ordering has the designation under "region" in the specs of a "0" or "1" These discs are playable on US DVD machines, anything ... It's a classic.
Excellent movie . I've seen it before several time's over the year's , not only is it a well put together movie but it has Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman starring in it .

Entertaining, excellent performances
Got it for my father for his birthday hadn’t seen it in years couldn’t find it on any streaming service he subscribed to. We watched it together, and I even enjoyed it and it had great picture great sound!

OLD SOUTH INSIGHT - WHEN COTTON WAS THE CASH CROP
EXCELLENT. REALLY EXCEPTIONAL ACTORS. VERY FEW FLICKS THESE DAYS EVEN COME CLOSE TO THE CHARACTERS DEVELOPEMENT. IT AMAZES ME HOW TENN. WMS. COULD UNDERSTAND AND CAPTURE THE COMPLEX MOTIVES OF THE VARIOUS CHARACTERS. HE HARDLY HAD A NORMAL LIFE BUT HIS IMAGINATION WAS VERY FERTILE. BURL IVES STEALS EVERY SCENE HE IS IN THRU OUT THE MOVIE. A RE-MAKE COULD NOT COME CLOSE TO THE INTENSITY OF MANY SCENES. THE BROODING BRICK CHARACTER IS ONE OF NEWMAN'S BEST. MAGGIE'S ROLE WAS MADE FOR LIZ. BURL IVES WAS BIG DADDY.
