  • A flash from the past

My sister is going through a nostalgic movie period. She's is wanting all the old 80's movies we used to watch on tv as a kid. So I got her Summer School for her birthday. The movie is about as good as it was in the '80's. I think the best part is the nostalgic value. However I think we watched the edited for tv edition. I do not remember the language being that bad. There is also the scene where they stage the classroom to look like a horror movie to freak out a substitute teacher. It was a lot gorier that I remember. All that aside it's a great movie about a teacher who gives up his life and summer (unwillingly) to help a bunch of rejected kids pass their state english exam, during summer school.

  • Back in the days when movies were fun

I saw this movie in the theater when it was first released. Movies were actually affordable in those days- and enjoyable to watch. "Summer School" has its funny moments, its silly moments, but also a suprisingly positive message for a comedy. Back in those days (the late 1980's) the entertainment industry was still quite tame. The dirty jokes and strong language in this movie are down to a minimum, in favor of humor and good clean fun, something you will not see in a movie today. The high school troublemakers are more fun-loving than threatening, and actually learn something by the end of the summer school course- again, something you would not see in any movie today.

  • A Movie Made Just for Good Fun

Here's Mark Harmon(NCIS's "Gibbs") back when he was as hot as you imagined he probably once was. And Kirstie Alley has a chemistry with Harmon that works well too. But the movie gets most of its entertainment from the wacky kids to whom poor Mr. Shoop (Harmon) is forced to teach remedial English as a summer school class. His choice is teach this class and sacrifice his summer plans to go to Hawaii, or get fired and lose his tenure. Problem is... he's a Phys Ed teacher and his students aren't exactly the learning type. A fun movie with a lot of laughs I've loved since it came out in 1987.

  • An excellent comedy film!

I purchased "Summer School" on DVD, because I have long very much enjoyed this film. Additionally, my old VHS copy has been worn down considerably by lots of watching. "Summer School" is an excellent, light-hearted comedy that is always very easy to watch; even after a hard day. A great movie to enjoy and forget about life's troubles for awhile. Mark Harmon and Courtney Thorne-Smith's acting are second to none. This film is about a laid-back teacher (Harmon) relegated to teaching a class of likeable misfits. He not only teaches them remedial English, (and gets half of them to pass their basic reading and writing skills test), but he also teaches them a number of life lessons in general. A jerk assitant principal as well as an honest and competent principal round out the film nicely. ...

  • Teenie bopper movie!

What can I say, not academy award material, but entertaining, and it has a cute girls, and a 1964 Falcon Convertible in it!
