  • A study in blues cliché.

First of all, Jeff Healey is an excellent guitarist. His tone, phrasing and chops are first rate. The man can really burn. His singing isn't too bad, either. He delivers his lyrics in a clear unaffected voice that that is mixed forward enough so that you can easily understand every word. There's the problem though: Healey's lyrics are so rooted in blues-rock cliché that they are almost painful to listen to. You can easily anticipate every phrase. Then, as you do this, you realize that his guitar licks suffer from the exact same issue. Heavy blues has never been the most cutting edge genre anyway, and this album does nothing more than quote the past masters. It's unfortunate that someone as obviously talented as Jeff Healey can't manage to break a even a single square centimeter of ...

  • Jeff Healey meets the Beatles (or THE Beatle)

To be honest with you, I purchased this CD for one reason and one reason only. The song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is on this CD. It was not only written by George Harrison (for the Beatles), but George (and Jeff Lynne) is credited as playing acoustic guitar and backing vocals on this song. I was very surprised when I found out George Harrison was a guest musician on this particular song. I collect CD's where an ex-Beatle is a guest musician. This has a great version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and is more a rocking version than the Beatles classic. According to the credits Jeff Healey is playing the great lead guitar. Even though George Harrison doesn't play lead guitar on the Beatles classic (Yes, Eric Clapton plays the lead on the Beatles song) you would have thought ...

  • The Jeff Healey band cd - Hell to pay

Gone too soon. This man and his band had talent. If you listen to the CD or any of his music you'll see. I first learned of Jeff's music and the movie roadhouse. Check out the movie it's a good one too.

  • the benchmark in rockin' blues

This is Healey's crowning achievement. No one melds rock and blues like his band. This cd is thoroughly good. Lyrically, there is some soul searching here, especially later, and of course there are a couple of trademark ballads. His play on 'sight' as a favorate theme can be taken quite tongue-in-cheek often. I remember seeing him walking around his chair while playing Full Circle and thinking, where is this guy going? What a performer. His remake of Guitar Gently Weeps is a gem. The cd ends with some songs on the search for significance and the longing for a full life. Lyrically, there's little that's inappropriate here. The cd before this one wasn't bad but the one that followed wasn't nearly as good. I never did get into his jazz persona though. RIP

  • Rockin' with the Jeff Healey Band

From the first time I heard the Jeff Healey Band in the movie, "Roadhouse," I was hooked on their music, which is a combination of rock and blues. He's got the chops, the songs, and the musicians who can back it up and keep the music rolling. Not a dud on this CD and it's great driving music! Especially of note are: "Full Circle, Easy Touch," and the beautiful ballad, "How Long Can a Man Be Strong?". It's a classic and especially now, since Healey has passed on. Get this one; you won't be sorry if you like rock.
