À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Emmy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (THE DAMNED UNITED) teams with screenwriter David Seidler (TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM) to tell the story of King George VI. When his older brother abdicates the throne, nervous-mannered successor George Bertie VI (Colin Firth) reluctantly dons the crown. Though his stutter soon raises concerns about his leadership skills, King George VI eventually comes into his own with the help of unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Before long the king and Lionel have forged an unlikely bond, a bond that proves to have real strength when the United Kingdom is forced to flex its international might.

Reviews
The Sun - This is a stunning piece of cinema and a perfect, feel-good start to the New Year., Guardian UK - Tom Hooper's richly enjoyable and handsomely produced movie about George VI's struggle to cure his stammer is a massively confident crowd-pleaser., Daily Mail - The rumours are completely true. The superlatives are completely justified. Colin Firth really does give the performance of his life as the Queen's father, George VI., New Of The World - Colin Firth's made an amazing film by being a stuttering, upper-class English gent? Hugh Grant must be bloody kicking himself., Los-Angeles Times - Both actors completely inhabit their absorbing roles, relishing the opportunity their exchanges provide and adding unlooked-for layers to a complicated human relationship.

  • British film making at its best - A worthy study into a Kings impediment.

I had intended to catch The Kings Speech at the cinema but for reasons I cant think of now I didnt. The DVD outlets in my town were still charging full price, well almost, so I decided to try eBay. As I am interested and concerned about animal welfare, and admire animal rescues who have a hard time doing it, I decided to have a look at the websites of my local animal rescues and bingo, on one, there was The Kings Speech at a very reasonable price. I benefited and so did they. Result. I so enjoyed the film, British to boot and good acting, even though I watched it while doing the most boring job in history - IRONING. I shall invite my friend over who hasnt seen it and watch it all over again but this time without an ironing board, iron and crumpled clothes. If you havent seen the ...

  • A brilliant film at a good price.

This is a brilliant film and we enjoyed watching it at home. I was particularly pleased that it had sub titles as I am deaf. I bought this particular item because it also featured a second film -'The Madness of King George'. I had tried to buy this DVD locally but they had sold out. I cannot compare it to another as it is the first DVD I have purchased on ebay.

  • A gem of a film

I first saw this film at the cinema and it lingered on in my mind for days after - so much so that when it was released on DVD I simply had to buy it to add to my collection. It's the story of how King George VI had to strive to overcome his debilitating stutter with the help of a rather unusual yet brilliant speech therapist. The highs and lows of his struggle pull at ones heartstrings. His wife Queen Elizabeth is his rock, without whom he possibly wouldn't have succeeded in being able to make a speech. Great acting, production and directing - simply a gem of a film. A gem of a film.

  • A wonderful film with some great acting.

I really enjoyed this film. I thought the acting was brilliant. All the actors fit their roles perfectly. It was educational for me as I didn't know King George VI had a stammer. 5***** katymay27

  • An excellent product, great value for the money.

Not to mention the Oscars the film has won, I have longed to view the film. Not in a movie theatre (with subtitles in my language, instead of the original). That is why I ordered the DVD through eBay. It is a superb movie, the DVD itself flawless. English is not my mother tongue, but viewing English films helps me improve the knowledge of a language I admire.
