    Hunting Warbirds

    I like Warbirds. I am a pilot and have been to Oshkosh a number of times (living 50 miles due north and now about 60 miles to SSE of OSH helped). Nothing sounds better than a Merlin engine or multi-row radial engine. I had seen the TV documentary about this saga, but didn't realize until I was 2/3s of the way through the book that it was the same story. The TV show was very good ... but Carl Hoffman's book takes it to the next level and then beyond. He takes you into the world of the larger than life characters that deal in these exotic airplanes; the guys in the aviation magazines and the ads in Trade-A-Plane that you dream about being. I worked for "an airplane guy" for a number of years while in college. While we never salvaged a true warbird ... he ...
