À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Acclaimed Christian rock singer Michael W. Smith stars in this uplifting drama about an idealistic associate minister named Ethan, who works at a well-to do Tennessee Ministry run by his father (J. Don Ferguson). The ministry seems to be more interested in opening up new churches in other countries than it is in taking care of its own African-American poor right there in Tennessee, much to the chagrin of Jake (Jeff Obafemi Carr) who runs the struggling inner-city ministry named the Second Chance. He's dealing with helping prostitutes, drug addicts and the homeless, and all the charity donations aren't enough; these people need emotional support to stand on their feet, not hand outs. When Ethan lets him tell off the congregation (on television, no less), the "Rock Star" minister is sent to work with Jake at the Second Chance. Of course the pair are bound to butt heads at first, but the deeply felt humanity they share is just as bound to manifest sooner or later. Director Steven Tyler mixes some good urban grit and hope into the formula and it's refreshing that no one character is free of flaws or all bad--everyone's got problems and the miracle comes from working together and forgiving rather than smiting the evildoers or passing judgement. This will be a must-see for Christian audiences, but anyone with a heart should be able to relate and glean a lot from its message of humility and brotherhood. Smith also did the score, and there are several of his songs featured.

  • real or reality.....

well, after looking at some of the ebay reviews of this movie left by others I can sure understand why this movie is a bit controversial. However, this is actually my family's second copy. We loaned the first one out and never got it back....I think its still circulating thru the church somewhere. Anyway, overall as a "Hollywood" movie, its not the best. Most of the 'actors' are not real actors and just normal people. So I don't think that a lot of the acting is that great - but it is REAL. I can relate to a lot of the so called 'issues' that this Christian man, his family and his church are walking thru. The issues and the situations are REAL - NOT REALITY!!! What the world calls 'reality' tv today is much more poorly acted than the real people in this movie....but it is thought ...

  • I was pleasantly surprised... My rating = 4.5

Very good. I'd rate it 4.5 if half stars were allowed. I bought this mostly for the curiosity value -- I wanted to see how Christian music superstar Michael W. Smith did in his acting debut. Well, I was pleasantly surprised on that front, and even more on the overall quality of the movie. It's a great story, and I thought very well acted. It avoided being overly syrupy or predictable and was not "in your face" preachy. I found the message of the challenge to live out one's faith and be committed to the poor rather than just sending cash to be be very powerful. Definitely worth a watch and I'm eager to share this with a bunch of my friends and discuss it together.

  • Must see!!

This movie is very well done and true-to-life. I was curious about Michael W. Smith's acting ability, but he does very well (as do the other characters). There are some curse words said within the movie, so you may want to keep that in mind before allowing children to watch this movie (plus the thematic elements are not really for young children under 16 or so). The only complaint I have is the abrupt ending (at least I thought it was abrupt). It is sad to say that this movie shows an accurate reflection of the so-called Mega-churches within America where members are predominately white and rich. The movie depicts a large white church (SO sterile like a hospital...) with a smaller African-American congregation. It focuses on what it really means to call oneself a CHRISTian. The ...

  • not a good Christian film...but an alright movie

if you are a truly devoted Christian and do your best to not watch movies that contradict the will of God....you would probably do your best to avoid this movie...this is todays Christianity i guess you could say at its finest....its a great movie i think in honesty as a movie, but i give the poor review because i bought it particularly off of a Christian movie site, hoping to watch a good Christian film...i hide this film so that none of my Christian friends want to borrow it because i do not want them to see it... the Pastor played by "Jeff Carr" is a very agressive angry, and proud Pastor who never really learns self control, whom lives a life that would shock me if he actually was truly biblically saved with the Spirit of God dwelling in him....i do not believe this movie ...

  • No Christ in this movie

While on a business trip, I was in a Christian Book store and I picked up and read the insert of this movie and thought that this movie would be a movie that my family and I could watch together. After purchasing it and sitting down with my family we were without a doubt disappointed with this movie. Flaws: 1. This movie exemplifies what many non Christian Americans think being a Christian is really about when it is actually on the contrary. 2. The movie lacked the grace that Christ shows and just shows an angry black man and a white privileged pastor's son that resolved nothing in the end. 3. The amount of cursing that was in this movie was really tasteless. 4. At no time was faith really mentioned during the entire movie. 5. Plot was weak at ...
