An older style palmcorder, but one of the best!
MiniDVs are not very popular right now, but the format will be around for a long time with some highend cameras recording in HD using the format. This palmcorder is easy to use and very rugged, easly being the best performing palmcorder that I've used. Compared to canon, and sharp models I've used in the past, this model has the best color reproductions and clarity. With no ghosting or artifactis in it's recording. The battery is removable on this model, so if you want you can buy extra batterys and extend your ability to shoot on the go. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this model again when I might need a replacement. Panasonic PV-DV53D Camcorder
This is the second Panasonic PV-DV53 I have acquired - the first one, I believe was stolen. Even though I have the option of using our Flip Ultra or Canon HD camera I still like the simplicity and video quality of the PV-DV53 for home movies. Versus HD video files, you don't need a super computer for editing, as long as you keep movies short but meaningful(the PV-DV53's format is standard definition - clear productions with proper shooting techniques).This is the second Panasonic PV-DV53 I have acquired - the first one, I believe was stolen. Great quality but ate tapes
Picture and sound quality is great. However I* did have problems after a couple of years with it eating tapes. There must be a type of roller problem as I have heard of it happening to others. I did purchase another in slightly used condition and hope it will hold up.

I'm just glad I can finally watch my old tapes
One of the few reasonably priced units I found that included the battery and charger and had also been tested.

Read carefully
I've read through the discription, and no where was there any mention of possible problem with recording onto tape. The camera powered up and functions all worked, it was just that when you went to record there was "banding" and luckily I was able to get a copy of the manual. There was a slight problem with the recording head of the camera. It appeared to be some kind of residue that prevented clean recording. If I hadn't read the manual I would have been very disappointed at the quality, but as the manual instructed I used a "head cleaning" tape which cleared off the problem.I've read through the discription, and no where was there any mention of possible problem with recording onto tape.
