The Inner Game of Barry Green!
I bought this book thinking it was written by Timothy Gallwey, the mental genius behind a couple of my favorite sports books of all time- The Inner Game of Tennis, and The Inner Game of Golf. Gallwey has a mental approach that you can apply to most anything. It concerns tapping into your inner self and talents, while bypassing the distractions and pitfalls presented by your concious mind. Well, apparently Barry Green, (a friend of Gallwey's), has read Gallwey's books and has found these amazing insights into how to apply this method to music! So he wrote a book about it. An...amazingly........booorring book! Gone is the incredible insight presented in any of Gallwey's books, instead replaced by Green telling us about how he learned to stop choking in a concert band setting- some of the ... I bought this book thinking it was written by Timothy Gallwey, the mental genius behind a couple of my favorite sports books of all time- The Inner Game of Tennis, and The Inner Game of Golf. Gallwey has a mental approach that you can apply to most anything. It concerns tapping into your inner self and talents, while bypassing the distractions and pitfalls presented by your concious mind. Well, apparently Barry Green, (a friend of Gallwey's), has read Gallwey's books and has found these amazing insights into how to apply this method to music! So he wrote a book about it. An...amazingly........booorring book! Gone is the incredible insight presented in any of Gallwey's books, instead replaced by Green telling us about how he learned to stop choking in a concert band setting- some of the mind games he has used to help improve some of his student's playing- how to learn a difficult piece, how to practice, or even how to become a better listener! These are all excellent premises, but are presented through incredibly mundane excercises and lame insight. This is the kind of book that takes twenty pages to make one point! Gallwey's contribution to this trainwreck is a short foreward section, in which he seems to try to absolve himself of the situation more than anything. I can't even recommend this to a concert musician or band director, which is the direction towards which everything is slanted. You would be much better off reading one of Gallwey's books, learning his method, and finding your own way to apply it to music- Not by trying to copy someone else's experiences. Part of Gallwey's charm lies in finding and applying your own true inner potential and excellence, but this book will not help you achieve either. Obviously, I was extremely disappointed.

Inner game - useful to musicians, teachers and parents
One of few books on this topic-musical performance and psychology. A good read for someone that wants to learn the inner experience of music. A collaborative and interesting book cowritten by a musician and author on the inner game of music as too was authored the inner game of tennis. It is an interesting approach to musicianship.

Fantastic!…
It would have been preferable to see a cover of the actual book not just the image provided on the site, since the site picture is from a different publisher, and I got confused. But the item is excellent!

Awesome Book
As a long-time musician, but a new violinist this book has given me insights to improve my performance and make my practice time so much more productive. Love the examples and exercises that are throughout the book as way to visualize playing problems. Highly recommend the book to anyone that plays an instrument or wants to listen to music with a clearer understanding.

Two of the three books were in very good condition. One had water damage. The books were a good value. The content is excellent.
