À propos de ce produit

Product Information

2005 ECPA Retailer's Choice Award winner for best biography/autobiography! Steve Saint was five years old when his father, missionary pilot Nate Saint, was speared to death by a primitive Ecuadorian tribe. In adulthood, Steve, having left Ecuador for a successful business career in the United States, never imagined making the jungle his home again. But when that same tribe asks him to help them, Steve, his wife, and their teenage children move back to the jungle. There, Steve learns long-buried secrets about his father's murder, confronts difficult choices, and finds himself caught between two worlds. Soon to be a major motion picture (January 2006), End of the Spear brilliantly chronicles the continuing story that first captured the world's attention in the bestselling book, Through Gates of Splendor.

  • End of the Spear is a must read!

This is a powerful first person account of a tragic story which has ended up a lesson in how God uses things we think are terrible, to bring about positive outcomes for His purposes. I enjoyed the entire book, cover to cover! An inspiration to those of us who are living our lives loving God and loving our "neighbors". I'm grateful to Steve Saint for not only living his life in that way, but in being willing to share it with the world.

  • An excellent read

This book is one of the very best I have ever read on the topic of engaging cultures not yet integrated into the current century. Steve Saint gives us more than a bird's eye view. Rather, he shows us why the Waodani are people with normal aspirations about life but lacked the facilities to see those dreams realized. Without making them totally dependent on "the outside", he shows how peoples of this type can transition into the 21st century without abandoning all of their cultural ways. He goes on to show us how these peoples can also embrace modern technology without having to wade through several centuries of technology in order to "catch up" with all that was/is new. His insights are helpful and demonstrate his vast experience. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering ...

  • Highly Recommended!

The book is wonderful! I saw the movie first and had a friend who had been reading the book told me stories which made me want to read the whole book myself. This story is truly unique, not many people can speak of their life with the people who killed their father. I really like the fact that Steve Saint doesn't write like he's simply telling you the facts, the book is just one long story, where he describes everything in great detail so you can really understand the story. I find myself, trying to read as much in one sitting as possible, it's not a thriller, it's just a really good story, one that is good for families to read together, teaching the kids about other cultures and understanding what missionaries really do. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a ...

  • Absolutely Captivating - Excellent in all respects

First, I am not a reader. I can read, but rarely if ever for pleasure. Reading to me is a difficult chore and so I read only when I need to know something. Therefore, please understand that when a non-reader says, "I couldn't stand to put the book down" and even started re-reading it, this is not an off-the-cuff statement. Even if you are not a Christian, you will find this book full of "God Things" will that amaze you. The book is very well written, easy to read, informative, educational, humorous, spiritually inspiring, and absolutely captivating. The fact that this/these happenings took place in my lifetime was a hook for me. There is a constant comparison between the collision of these two completely different worlds that allows one to see the good and bad of all people and all ...

  • Keeps you totally enthralled about a true-life story.

My son, an ordained minister, suggested that I read it since I am interested in missionaries and their lives world-wide. I had heard about the 5 who lost their lives some years back while serving God and wanted to know more about the people they were reaching in Ecuador. This book brought back memories of geography lessons from childhood. I liked the fact that I could picture the location of this story in my mind's eye; picture the love for the Lord they were teaching; picture the daily ups and downs they had, and found it beyond my wildest immagination that the son of one of the missionaries returned to the "sight of the crime" years later and came to love and understand these very primitive people who in their uncivilized way felt they had to murder 5 innocent missionaries. The whole ...
