Questioning Charismatic Doctrine? Read this.
I have been a follower of the Charismatic "Word of Faith" movement for nearly fourteen years. Desiring to enter ministry, I moved my family to Tulsa -- the Mothership of the "faith" movement -- and completed training in 2003 at Rhema Bible Training Center in Pastoral Ministry. At Rhema, I personally sat under the teaching of Brother Kenneth E. Hagin, a recognized founder of the movement. One could say I was "in with both feet." Throughout my training, I heard and observed many things which caused me to begin questioning the soundness of charismatic/pentacostal doctrine. I spend a lot of time on the road in my profession, and I often hear John MacArthur's radio program. I've come to respect his teaching and his determination to root his beliefs in ... I've come to respect his teaching and his determination to root his beliefs in firm scriptural footing. When I heard he had written a book addressing Charismatic belief, my curiosity was peeked. As one might imagine, I have a great personal investment in the charismatic, Word Faith belief system. A part of me really didn't want to consider that it might be corrupt. The more rational part of me realized that if my beliefs couldn't stand up against scrutiny, they were not worth holding onto. Charismatic Chaos is a must read for those who are questioning charismatic doctrine. In the early chapters of the book, I felt there existed key scriptures which MacArther was not addressing. However, as I moved further on, each and every verse upon which charismatic doctrine is based was confronted squarely. The house of cards which is the "Word of Faith" movement collapsed. God's word says that everything that can be shaken will be shaken. Charismatic doctrine simply does not stand up under scrutiny. While I was somewhat fearful of how this book might affect my faith, I soon came to realize that it brings clarity. My faith remains strong. I know a sovereign God still rules in heaven. He is unassailable. The Charismatic Movement, however, is not. Take the dare. Read this book!

I would consider this book a classic to understanding the Charismatic phenomenon from a purely Biblical perspective. I was never a fan of MacArthur but I have come to change my mind. If you truly want a Biblical perspective rather than only an experimental viewpoint, I would highly recommend. Buy more than one copy as you will no doubt want others to read it. There is much deception in this movement. I have seen it first hand and want others to be educated and well informed. For too long we have been silent. It's time we knew the truth. A must read for both the Charismatics and non-charismatics. I would consider this book a classic to understanding the Charismatic phenomenon from a purely Biblical perspective. Charismatic Chaos a must read!
If you want an accurate and scripture based informative book this is the one. John Macarthur debunks a lot of the nonsense going on in the charismatic movement and how many of its outworkings just aren't biblical. The book is focused on getting christians to use the bible as they look at charismatic/pentacostal issues and not to use their feelings. Some things will not make the "pentacostal/charismatic" proponents happy, but if honest and insightful following of scripture is what you would like to read, then John Macarthur has done that in this book. As a former member of the pentacostal movement, this book was a refreshing "eye opener." It makes a good book for library or as a gift.If you want an accurate and scripture based informative book this is the one.
