THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is, without a doubt, the granddaddy of all splatter films. Inspired by 1950s mass murderer Ed Gein, Tobe Hooper's debut feature opens with five unsuspecting teenagers driving in a van through sun-scorched rural Texas. After a terrifying exchange with a demented hitchhiker, the group ends up at an old farmhouse. At first, the house appears to be abandoned, but soon, the evil residents begin to wreak havoc on the youngsters' lives. With her friends and wheelchair-bound brother Franklin (Paul A. Partain) disappearing one by one, the terrified Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns) must summon the strength to escape from the ghoulish family of mass murderers, who are led by the gruesome, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen).Hooper's low-budget exploitation horror film became a cult hit and favorite midnight movie that helped define the splatter genre by introducing such standard features as the house of terror, where innocent victims meet horrible ends, and the girl in peril who survives the mayhem to become the heroine. Spawning several sequels, as well as a 2003 remake, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remains an untouchable work of sheer terror that continues to shock audiences all over the world.

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre Special Edition DVD

    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the greatest horror movies ever made and this DVD is the version you should buy if you like Special Features and great picture quality. It's filled with special features never seen before and a great commentary by the cast and director Tobe Hooper. With the new HD transfer from the original 16mm camera originals you can guarantee you will get a crystal clear, sharp picture. For me the transfer takes something away from the way the film should be watched. It no longer has that low-budget 70's horror feel to it like the VHS version had. The previous OOP version is digitally remastered but still has that low-budget grain when you watch it on a HD/Plasma television (duh, of course!); but you won't have any grain on this version so if you're looking for a ...

    Remake??? What remake??? The only TCM I know, is this 1

    I couldn't agree more w/the two fellow horror fans that reviewed this DVD before me. This is a must have for horror fans, especially horror fans that know REAL HORROR. Like the title of my review states, Remake??? What remake??? The only Texas Chainsaw Massacre I know of, is the one on this DVD. The remake of this movie has NOTHING on the original. You just can't duplicate or create a more improved version of this movie & if you watch them both, starting w/the original of course, then compare them, you'll see why. Sometimes it's the simplicity and the originality of things that stand out & are just better left alone.

    Must Have For Serious Horror Fans. Slash-o-rama!

    This is what true horror fans have been waiting for, the 2 disc ultimate edition. If you have never seen this film be prepared - this is the scariest, goriest, slashiest, creepiest etc etc etc horror movie you will see. Not for children, not for the faint of heart. This one started it all! Cannot recommend this highly enough. Comes with 2 documentaries, commentaries by the cast, cinematographer and Tobe Hooper himself. Bloopers, deleted scenes and on HD! What could be better?! Maybe a Leatherface doll would be cool, a stuffed one so I can sleep with it as my pillow. Now THAT would be sweet!

    This two-disc set is absolutely fantastic. The bonus features are terrific, wonderful. I am very happy with my purchase.

    Great collector's edition!

    Live this movie...and now with half the cast deceased...it was cool to see the updated interviews... Well worth it!
