Accurate portrayal of early PGA Tour with distracting sappy love story.
This movie is a hard to find classic. It's the tear jerking story of Ben Hogan's rise to fame and his tragic car wreck mid-career. Grantland Rice, Sam Snead, Jimmy Demerrit and others join the cast and crew for this golf epic set in mostly California locations: Riviera CC and Pebble Beach Golf Links. The romance part of the story is pretty sappy, but if you can get past that, you'll enjoy seeing what life was like on the PGA Tour in Ben's day. No Gulfstream 650's, no BMW courtesy cars, no big media tents with free food and concierge services for reporters. Most regard Ben Hogan, although not the winner of the most titles, the greatest overall shot maker of the game. This movie should be required viewing for any player earning a PGA Tour card today. A must have for any golfer
Glen Ford gives a great performance as he recreates the life of Ben Hogan. You learn what he and his wife went through to become the legend he is. You feel Valerie Hogans pain for Ben after the accident that almost took his life and should have ended his golf career. It really is a love story that even your wife will like.

This was the story of an American golfer and Glenn Ford did a great job portraying Ben Hogan one of Americas greatest golfers.
