Two Jimmy Stewart-Henry Fonda Westerns, One Very Good
I bought this DVD because I wanted to see The Cheyenne Social Club (1970), starring James Stewart and Henry Fonda and directed by Gene Kelly. Since Firecreek (1968), also starring Stewart and Fonda but directed by Vincent McEveety, came with it, I watched both movies. Only Cheyenne Social Club warrants repeated viewings. That film follows two Texan cowboys (Stewart and Fonda) as they travel to Cheyenne, where Stewart has inherited his dead brother's business, the Cheyenne Social Club. Excited by the idea of being a "man of property" for the first time in his life, Stewart buys himself a suit and is met warmly by everyone in Cheyenne. Then he finds out that the Social Club is actually a brothel. He tries to shut down the Club, but an agreement made by his brother with the railroad ... Fonda gets along just fine with each of the sweet girls at the Club, and Stewart starts to warm up to them. When he shoots a man who attacks one of the girls, Stewart becomes the target of every relative the man had, and they're all on their way to Cheyenne for revenge. This is a great comedy with everything you'd expect from a good western. The incurably loquacious Fonda and solemn Stewart make a perfect pair. You like the girls and want the bad guys to get what's coming to them. Cheyenne Social Club a very entertaining film. Firecreek, however, is serious and borders on Peckinpah-style violence near the end. While watching this movie, I continually felt frustrated at the characters' lack of action, which is one of the points the film is making, but it's still frustrating. Here, Stewart plays a soon-to-be third-time father, farmer, and part-time sheriff in a small western town called Firecreek. Fonda is the leader of a gang who arrive to rest their horses. The best way to describe Firecreek is to say that it's The Wild One with the motorcycles replaced by horses and Fonda as a less likable Brando character. The gang drink, rape, destroy, interrupt the Sunday sermon, and run all over the locals, who stand by and let it happen. Everybody in town is a poor shmo with no ambition, just living from one identical day to another. The gang, which most of the time is without Fonda, who's nursing a bullet wound, repeatedly challenge Stewart's resolve, but Stewart keeps hoping they'll move along and leave the town in peace again. They don't. People get killed, and Stewart single-handedly takes on Fonda and his gang in a climactic gunfight. Firecreek is a fine movie, especially if you like westerns, but it's not the sort of film you'll want to watch again and again. The Cheyenne Social Club is that type of movie. It's a fun story with good direction and strong performances from Stewart and Fonda, and it makes buying the DVD worthwhile.

Outstanding Actors
You can never go wrong with any movie starring either James Stewart or Henry Fonda, but 2 movies co-starring them both is beyond description. Fonda is excellent in Firecreek, cast against type as the villain. James Stewart shows again in both movies that he is perfect at playing the average Joe, who does his best regardless of the situation he finds himself facing. the BEST
The Cheyenne Social Club is one if not the best western ever made. Not only dose it show the true west but the movie has a stroy line that is still true to this date no matter what the day is. As two frineds in the old west are on a cattle drive one fines out that his brother has passed away and gose to settle his affairs , his best friend without any asking just packs up and rides off with him, now how many would do that today, Although the " Social Club" truns out to be an out west cat house, James Stewart dose his best to do the right thing, Henry Fonda as his best friend is there beside him all the way.This two actors Stewart/Fonda are the best team in the western movies, it was and still is a sad day for us when two greats pass on, but think goodness for the DVD's they will live onThe Cheyenne Social Club is one if not the best western ever made. " AN OLDY BUT A GOODY"
This Movie is very good ,it has comedy,a western older days take,Stewart and Fonda play off eachother very well,if you are fans of them you will really love these movies! This is a great deal with both movies together in one DVD!!

My review of the DVD The Cheyenne Social Club/Firecreek
These are two very enjoyable movies that are entertaining and good for family viewing. Where can you find such wonderful actors as Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart? My husband and I had been trying for quite awhile to get these movies. They are the older forgotten movies I think have good values in them that are good for younger ones to see. Firecreek is a movie that I had completely forgotten about. The action is a little slow in this one but the quality of the acting and theme of the movie makes up for the lack of action. Emotions are strong in this movie and I being a woman I prefer movies with emotion. We are so glad to have finally been able to see both of these great movies.These are two very enjoyable movies that are entertaining and good for family viewing.
