TEX AVERY AND DROOPY ARE AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME HERE! INCREDIBLY FUNNY AND TIMELESSLY AWESOME!
Wonderful childhood memories right here! The late great Tex Avery just outdoes himself here masterfully directing these legendary 24 Droopy theatrical cartoons! The first disc is my absolute favorite because the early 1940's Droopy cartoons have these really beautiful hand-painted backgrounds and the quality level of animation was super-detailed and sharp which totally shows, especially in my favorite Droopy cartoon, THE SHOOTING OF DAN MCGOO. SO disappointed that the curvy sexy Red character disappears after the third cartoon from this series, though. Also, sadly, the animation level quality TOTALLY drops a lot here and the character designs for the Droopy cartoons becomes way more simplified and becomes way less detailed in the 1950's cartoons. Tex Avery's Droopy: Complete Collection
What I loved is that it delivered what it promised, hilarity. Rewind and re-watch little scenes over and over even though you're an adult and when you tell your own kids "don't do that". Another reason is because it's like a great concert, you don't go to see Elton John (bad example maybe) to hear his new jazz album or his old B side songs that never made it on the radio for a reason. No, you bought that ticket cuz you love the guy and you wanna hear... "Rocket Man", "Daniel" or "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" They packed the very best episodes into this set like a sardine can and I'm thrilled that I purchased it. The fact that Tex also worked on Tom & Jerry, my all time fav cartoon, makes it all the better. I ... What I loved is that it delivered what it promised, hilarity. Tex Avery at his Best with Droopy
Here is a great collection of 24 cartoon shorts, Directed by the great (and slightly demented) Tex Avery. That lovable Droopy dog with the low monotone voice and great detective skills is showcased here in his first DVD collections release. All 24 shorts have been remastered and restored and look very good for 50-60 year old film. Originally released in theaters between 1943 - 1958, these shorts are definately a product of their time. There is a disclaimer at the beginning about the racial and sexist themes that run in these features. I let my young son watch these with me and he was unaware of the adult themes and laughed everytime the wolf got whacked with a mallet. Comes on 2 DVDs and packaged nicely. Tex Avery's Droopy Theatrical Collection
I purchased this as a Christmas present for my husband. In 10-07 he was diagnosed with Hodgekin's Lymphoma and started chemo treatments on 11-5. He absolutely loves all the Droopy cartoons and I figured he could watch this on days he is feeling low and it would give him something to laugh at. During this period of time there just isn't enough that makes him laugh so I thought this was a perfect present. So far, he has only watched a couple of the cartoons on it but he loves it. And yes, it makes him laugh!!! I wasn't able to get out much during that time, between his treatments and not wanting to get around crowds due to flu/cold symptoms everywhere, so I turned to E-bay. And as usual, they came through for me. Again, it was the perfect gift and the timing ... I purchased this as a Christmas present for my husband. I have liked Droopy for years and was delighted to finally be able to acquire the entire theatrical series on DVD. Despite certain cartoons on the set having noticeable DVNR (digital video noise reduction) defects (some split-second blurring during fast moments - a minor problem, in my opinion), it is nevertheless a must-have for anyone who wants to see these cartoons uncut, with the original gags restored, including the blackface gags (my apologies to whomever these offend, but these cartoons really should be shown as they were originally, whether you agree with the gags or not). A turn-off to me was the disclaimer at the start of the discs (a similar disclaimer is seen on the Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection sets) acknowledging how the cartoons, stereotypical gags and all, were "a ...
