Great for Digital shooters looking to convert!
Great camera for digital shooters coming off the Canon DSLR platforms. My girlfriend has been shooting on her Canon Rebel for a few years until I got her this camera and shooting with the Canon EOS 7/ELAN 7E has become second nature to her. Obviously, with this being one of the last Film SLRs that Canon produced, you have access to a wide array of features you wouldnt get from a manual focus SLR. Shutter speeds of up to 4000, Eye Auto-Focus, rear dial wheel and front dial wheel near the shutter to adjust both shutter speed and aperture one handedly. Overall a great camera body, image quality will vary depending on the lens and is entirely dependent on the lens and not the body. Canon EOS Elan 7NE 35mm Film Camera
I used an EOS Elan IIE for 7 years after more than 33 years using other film cameras and then bought two more recently and all are excellent. I took between 1000 and 2000 photos with it without any incidents or bad photos. I had bought a daughter an EOS Elan 7E and she has used it taking many hundreds of excellent photos. Recently I bought her an EOS Elan 7N and an EOS Elan 7NE since she takes numerous photos and really enjoyed the 7N. In trying to buy the 7NE for her, I had a hard time finding any camera store or mail order camera store or anyone on EBAY that had one in stock. I finally found a new one from a mail order place in Hong Kong and bought it for her on EBAY. Recognizing that this camera is an excellent camera with features updated from the IIE models and the 7NE is still ... I used an EOS Elan IIE for 7 years after more than 33 years using other film cameras and then bought two more recently and all are excellent. Recognizing that this camera is an excellent camera with features updated from the IIE models and the 7NE is still a current model, I decided to buy another new one and was lucky to find it on EBAY for my personal usage. Ergonomically, it is a well-designed camera with good fit in hands and with controls easy to use and placed in good positions. It is simple to use and learn to use, it is fast in auto-focus, it has accurate metering, it is light in weight, and it, like the IIE, is a rugged camera. It has some updated features beyond the IIE but it is very similar in operation. I like it so much that I may buy several more and keep them in storage in the event they may be discontinued one day. I have Canon Digital EOS D60, Canon Digital EOS Rebel Xti, and Canon Digital EOS Rebel Xsi, and all lenses are interchangeable with the EOS Elan 7NE as well as the EOS Elan IIE models I have. I prefer to use the canon IS (Image Stabilizer) lenses on all of these cameras, but I do have several Canon and Vivitar Series 1 lenses that I use. All of these cameras, including the 7NE have surfaces that resist scratches and paint wear and signs of brassing when wear does occur. This camera has manual, shutter priority, aperture priority, and depth of field modes that make it truly very versatile; however, if one wants to do so, he or she can use it as a point and shoot camera by setting it on a setting and leaving it there. It has a number of picture settings for anyone not wanting to use one of the above modes. I have used a lot of professional 35mm cameras (Topcon, Nikon, and Canon) for over 40 years and I find that the EOS Elan series (IIE through 7NE) film cameras are top performing film cameras that produce excellent photos. The 7NE has the look and feel of the other EOS cameras that are digital and it is easy to go back and forth from the EOS Elan film cameras to the EOS digital cameras without much thinking even during fast picture taking events. I take more scenic landscape photos than other types, but I also take some architecture photos, and many portraits. The Elan works excellent in all situations. I highly recommend the 7NE and will continue to take film as well as digital photos and use my film scanner to convert the film images to digital files.

Canon EOS Elan 7e camera
I have Three Nikon camera's an FE a N80 and a F3. Love my Nikon's. True work horses. I entered into the auto focus world with the purchase of my Canon EOS Elan IIe. This has been a great camera for me. I found the Canon EOS Elan 7e here on eBay and won the bidding for just over $100.00 what a deal. I mostly wanted this as back up incase my other Canon failed. This camera has replaced that camera now, not because the Elan IIe failed but because this is such a great camera. It is light and sophisticated. Many of the same shooting modes as with most Canon camera's and also you have your choice of modes that you can manipulate to be creative to your own taste. Very positive action and very very quiet. A plus when you are shooting up close with wildlife. The camera is fairly easy to figure out IF you read the manual. There are a lot of options to chose from and until you learn them all you will need the manual. The eye control focusing in great and accurate. Just look at one of the 7 focusing area's in the view finder press the shutter release down part way and it will focus where you look. You can also manually chose one of the focusing areas with the control wheel on the back of the camera. Very easy to use. The LCD on top of the camera provides you a wealth of information and has proven to be very helpful. You can also see this information in the view finder.(accept for the programming features that you can only see on the main LCD) The view finder has the ability to Change focus to match your eye. I could go on but all in all this is a great camera for professional and amateur Alike. Canons ultrasonic lenses on this camera body make a great match. With everybody going digital you can pick up one of these great cameras at a fantastic price. 35mm will always be around and is still my preferred median for shooting. You would not be disappointed with this camera.

Wonderful Camera!
I am not a professional photographer, but I have past amateur to somewhere in-between. I like this camera because it has so many wonderful features...many of which I started using right away and many I am picking up as I go along. This camera gives you room to grow. Anyone who can operate an SLR will be able to use it, but I think with practice, great results are possible. It is comfortable to hold, and pleasant to shoot with. I'm glad I went with this. Also, Canon and nikon are now the only 2 major companies making film SLR's so parts will be available for longer than some other brands...of course, this could go both ways, if you buy a minolta now, you may be able to get replacements very cheap for a pretty long time. EOS Elan 7e is a good camera
The eye control does not work very accurately. I have followed the manual's calibration procedure, but it still is not perfect. That's why the rating is not excellent. I really didn't expect it to work so it's no big deal. The camera is light, it worked like a magic when I shot the Fall Show of University of Texas' show choir "Longhorn Singers". Under "no flash" restriction I used the Fuji ISO 1600 film with Canon EF 70 - 200 f/2.8 IS USM. The automatic metering worked perfectly and no frame was lost in the whole roll.The eye control does not work very accurately.
