The sequel to developer Volition's first-person sci-fi shooter moves away from the setting found in the original Red Faction. Instead of exploring labyrinthine caverns from within an underground mining colony on Mars, players roam futuristic cities on Earth. An evil dictator named Sopot has condemned the player's character (Alias) to death, along with a handful of other soldiers, for inciting a rebellion. It doesn't take long before the group breaks free, thus beginning the arduous task of reclaiming Earth's freedom from a totalitarian regime. <br><br>Attempting to prevent this from happening are armies of cyborg soldiers, spider mines, sentry droids, and other enemies, but players have an advantage missing from the first game: five brothers-in-arms fighting as a team. The teammates, Tangier, Repta, Quill, Shrike, and squad leader Molov, each demonstrate distinct abilities and personalities as they fight. Quill is a quiet soldier who is an expert sniper, for example, while Shrike is a rowdy braggart. The soldiers are automatically under computer control, so players do not have to worry about issuing commands or planning out intricate strategies. <br><br>The situation dictates what each teammate will do in a particular mission. Sometimes a squad member will drive one of the several different vehicles and aircraft as players provide the firepower, while other times they will follow and offer cover fire. The Geo-Mod engine from the first game is present in this version as well, allowing players to destroy buildings and shape the terrain using an assortment of high-powered weapons, including submachine guns, assault rifles, and grenade launchers. Veteran actor Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Millennium) provides the voice of Molov, and up to four players can battle each other on a split-screen.

Possibly the best split screen multiplayer of all time!
Red Faction II functions as a very entertaining first person shooter game, but what makes it really great is the multiplayer modes. With up to four players on one screen with a multitap, this is the most fun console multiplayer game I have ever played. The game offers several great multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Arena, Bagman, Regime and others. Each multiplayer mode is customizable with up to 6 total players including bots with varying difficulties from Easy to Medium to Hard. Even with four-player split screens, the graphics are bright and very easy to see. Different weapons and pickups are neon color coded so you can easily spot them from a distance. The action is fast paced, and the twenty or so different levels you can unlock give an awesome variety ... Red Faction II functions as a very entertaining first person shooter game, but what makes it really great is the multiplayer modes. I've played other split screen multiplayer games, such as Halo 2, Medal of Honor, Dead Red Revolver, Unreal Tournament, Time Splitters, etc., and Red Faction II is the one I always come back to as being the most fun multiplayer game. The single player mission is also very enjoyable, although frustratingly difficult at parts. It is worth playing through, however, just to unlock all of the multiplayer levels and characters. If you enjoy multiplayer shooters, you owe it to yourself and your friends to try this game out.

Red Faction & Red Faction 2 are the best FPS on PS2
What can i say. Your looking at 2 of the best FPS games ever made. Red Faction has great graphics. Great controls and a lengthy single player game. Your looking at about 20+ hours to complete. Has an OK multi player but, the meat of the game is the single player campaign. As for Red Faction 2 it also has great graphics. Great controls. The single player campaign is kinda short about 7 to 8 hours. Don't worry it has an awesome multiplayer experience. You'll be playing that for ever after you finish the single player campaign. Great sequel, but still not as good as it could be.
Geo Mod is awesome, plan and simple. The ability to significantly change the gameplay by breaking through walls instead of using the door is a lot of fun. So then tell me this, why didn't this game use it more? There were far too many indestructible barriers. Why walk through one room to get to another when you can just blast through the wall (and possibly kill the bad guy on the other side) with a well placed sticky mine? I found myself running and gunning through most of this game, and even though that was a lot of fun, I would have liked to be able to go apesh*t with the explosives and really level the playing field, literally.Geo Mod is awesome, plan and simple. Such a great game! We used to play this game for hours when we were younger. If only the newer generations of FPS games followed Red Faction, they would be so much better. Game plays great. Thank you!
