Excellent Sound Quality
Sound reproduction is phenomenal. Once it's setup properly, audio playback is second to none. Now the downside is, setup is not very intuitive. You will need to download the manual to get it setup correctly, there is no way around it. The menu is not very informative (i.e. changing the optical or coaxial input assignments). The manual also informs you what functions are available or not available in lieu of speaker configuration (i.e. ProLogic II is not available unless all 6 speakers are enabled). Aside from the setup issues this is the best sounding a/v receiver I have ever owned and I've owned quite a few, Harmon Kardon, Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer and JVC just to name a few.Sound reproduction is phenomenal. Great Performing Receiver for the budget minded
This receiver has great sound and features for a sub $300 receiver. Hookups were a snap and the manual provided helpful. The remote easily took codes for my other remote control devices helping keeping the remote control clutter down. The only minus on this product for me was the lack of HDMI connectability and the keys on the remote are not backlit. HDMI was not a major problem for me as my current wide screen TV isn't equipped for it either. The receiver does a good job switching between video modes with three component video and digital audio hookups. I've been using this set up with a set of Klipsch surround sound speaker system for about a month now and am very satisfied for the value for the money.This receiver has great sound and features for a sub $300 receiver. Yamaha is still getting it right in Receivers these are top notch products.
Yamaha always makes nice receivers. This one has plenty of power for all the speakers I need to fill the house with sound, it's neither too bright and it is not muddy with bass at low, medium or high, shake-the-earth volumes. I have owned a couple of other Yamaha receivers, including one that had the first iteration of Yamaha's sound fields built-in. It was imported early on in the years of Yamaha's "sound field" tech, and it was majorly complicated to structure correctly. This one is simplified and it is much easier to set the global presentation and tonality for a room. The year+model that I bought does not have an HDMI connection, except for the ease of use most probably won't miss that, I think, I don't need HDMI on my receiver anyway. There are plenty of inputs and outputs to ... Yamaha always makes nice receivers. There are plenty of inputs and outputs to connect almost any device I need, adapters are readily available. This comes with a massive remote control, I suppose it's a "learning remote" but I never program remotes much, it's pretty simple to just grab the one that works the device I intend to adjust. This Yamaha is a big unit fellows, don't expect your wife to be installing it, it is fairly heavy and being square, it's bulky to handle. There are many logo imprints for the various technologies built in, including "XM Ready" and something termed "neural sound". It's probably best to learn how those apply to you as time goes. I'm really pleased with this one, I hope that it lasts a long time.

This is a very great item,very powerful and easy to operate all the diferrant channels make it a very inpressive head unit.Makes my surround sound 10x greater.
