Product Information

From his current post in Antarctica, British glaciologist Matt (Kieran O'Brien), recalls how he met Lisa (Margo Stilley), a 21-year-old American student. They were at a rock concert at London's Brixton Academy, and he took her back to his apartment for sex. This began a brief relationship, which is revealed as Matt remembers and comments on its milestones--mainly the other concerts they attended and their significant sexual experiences--before their initial sexual attraction waned and they were forced to part.The titular nine songs are comprised of concert performances by 1) Primal Scream, 2) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, 3) Elbow, 4) Michael Nyman, 5) Super Furry Animals, 6) The Dandy Warhols, 7) Von Bondies, 8) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club again, and 9) Franz Ferdinand. Shot on often-blurry, handheld digital video from an audience perspective, these scenes have a you-are-there effect. The sequences involving Matt and Lisa are intimate and realistic (be warned--the sex in the film is real and graphic), conveying everything one needs to know about their relationship with only the most rudimentary dialogue. With this brief, dreamlike work, director Michael Winterbottom (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE) has theoretically created the ultimate music movie--one that is purely sex, drugs, and rock & roll. The result is akin to the feeling of listening to a great mix tape made by a former lover.

Very good film but definitely not for everyone.
I was interested in this film from the first reviews of it I read. The film tells the story of a tryst between a couple during an entire summer of nine musical concerts they attend (actually they only attend 8 together but you'll have to watch the movie to find out why). The film concentrates more on the sexual and physical cycles of their short relationship rather then the emotional aspects and therfore would probably not appeal to anyone looking for a traditional love story. The frequent sexual scenes in this story are both visually and verbally graphic, falling somewhere in between soft and hardcore pornography, there are no fade-outs or simulating, so any viewer who is offended by such material would best be advised to avoid this film. The advantage to this is that the viewer almost ... I was interested in this film from the first reviews of it I read. Each concert features one of the 9 songs performed live by a, mostly unknown, musical band and includes a final song which is a piano concerto. The songs, which range from good to average, start each scene and highlight the general mood of the couple toward each other and their relationship at a particular time during the story. One of the best features of the DVD is the behind the scenes interviews with each of the actors and the director where they discuss the advantages and difficulties in filming such a cutting edge film. The movie will touch a cord with anyone who has experienced an intense short term sexual affair and dealt with the many often contrary emotions which come along with it.

I enjoyed it. I have had a couple of short lived intense affair's like this. It holds true to form an any thing goes, nice memories to fall back on! Of what it like to be young and full of life and lust.

Should have been rated xXx(+) - too much hip about sex scenes; absent of a story line. Music between sex scenes goes no where. Save you money.
