For the mid-line fan, this is a book that just looks pretty. For cleverness, ingenuity, and presentation, THE BEATRICE LETTERS gets 5 Stars. For content, or at least helpful content, the book gets 3 Stars. Overall, a 4 Star read, but one I would recommend most strongly to the biggest Baudelaire devotee.

If you're going to cry about something, cry about this book. Dear Sir, There is nothing more heartbreaking then eternally waiting for people who are so important to you to finally come into your life again after being apart for so long. Why won't you help me? You must not know what it feels like. Please, all I ask is for just a few minutes of your time. So many stories end in fire, so many people desperately need answers to their literally burning questions. Dancing flames can haunt a person for years. I saw you yesterday, and if I'm not mistaken you saw me too. Of course no one recognized you since you were disguised as a dentist. It was incalculably -a word which here means "exceedingly"-risky to do what you had done, but you managed. I called out to you but you conveniently disappeared ... Stories seem too engulfed in secrets that are too unpleasant, unnerving, unwelcome and unfortunate that we must find them out on our own because no one believes we can handle such disastrous secrets. Things would be so much easier if the all the anagrams in the world were already arranged in the correct order. If you don't mind me asking you this, do you think the treachery of the earth will ever cease? Every night I lie awake bothered by this question because the answer always seems to alter into another. When you love someone-truly love them- you never stop searching for them in your heart or on land. No matter how dangerous the circumstances become. Some things change, sir, but something that will never change is that the sad truth is that the truth is sad. Beatrice Letters
I love the visual effects of this book. Wonderfully put together with high quality, uniqueness, and care. My 11 year old daughter loved the Lemony Snickey series so much that when I saw this I had to get it for her. She was very excited that there was another book to the series that helped wrap it up and add interesting details to the series. Excellent addition to the collection.
