A Lesson Before Dying
A Lesson before dying is a motivating, heart touching book! Schools across the nation should have this book in all the English classes! This heart touching novel is about a young innocent black man named Jefferson, which in the late 1940's, was convicted of multiple murders that he did not commit. While Jefferson is in jail a waiting for his time to come, his aunt convinces Grant, the local teacher to educate him. Grant who doesn't care for Jefferson or anyone else rather than Vivian, his girlfriend, unwillingly accepts his aunt's plea to help Jefferson "become a man". Grant who himself is lost in the world grows closer with Jefferson. They come to understand each other and Grant learns from Jefferson,vise versa. I won't ruin the ending of the book for those who haven't read it yet. This ... A Lesson before dying is a motivating, heart touching book! Just like the photos. Great price for a book that looks like it’s never been touched! I needed the book for my summer reading and the low price and good quality was very nice.

A Lesson before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines
This is a marvelous book--It's such a good read; it's suspenseful, deals with human emotions and I can't wait to see how it ends. It captures the way races were interacting many years ago; and I suppose to some extent, still do today. The bottom line is that we are all human beings and we all deserve to be treated with dignity. What a difference it is; reading a classic vs. a romance novel. My son was an English major in college and he loves the classics. This is one he wanted for his collection. Soooo, I had to read it, too. Guess you never stop being a mom.
