A wonderful book for the beginner who is looking for new ways to introduce miniatures in unusual containers, displays, etc. A unique part of the projects of this book is taking everyday ordinary objects such as teapot, hatbox, watering can and creating a miniature scene in them. This would be a great guide book for a teacher in the arts of an elementary school or even a high school and showing students how to create from scratch a diorama/scene using recycled items in a different way. The book has indepth photos and even printie pages to copy to make the many accessories and furniture items used in the scene. Delightful Miniature Scenes in Everyday Containers
The most admirable part of this book is the use of many recycled materials from around your home. The cover sold me because I want to make my own scenes, separate from a complete doll house. Little snippets of life, more than just furniture sitting in a room. All the little details are so much fun to make and collect. 34 pages of basic techniques covering the use of paint, wood,plastic,paper,card, fimo clay,beads, wire, fabric, natural and artificial flora. The projects: potting shed,tea shop,Christmas hamper,grocer,wizards spell book,fairy glade, and haberdashers. In the back are templates for interior parts of the projects. The furniture, food,and plants are in 1/12 scale. My favorite scene is inside a teapot. Too numerous to count are color photos of the tiny things to make and ... Lots of well organized paragraphs and sketches help us understand easily what to do. Essential instructions read like a cook book. Working with clay is a minimal part of the book. Its all about setting the scene,and creating all kinds of typical things one might find in a natural setting. The authors Susan and Martin Penny are best sellers in their field in Britain, creating the first stitching magazine and craft books. They enjoy all the pastimes I do such as gardening,ballroom dancing,collecting toys,antiques,and making miniatures. They live with their 2 cats in a converted barn. This book would be a fun project idea book for a school art class, from grade school on up or home art project. Everyone could choose their own personal world to create and fill it full of hand made treasures. I am adding it to my art library. 5 Star recommendation!! SSCopely

Great project book!
When I saw the Hat Store on the front cover I knew I had to make it. Great instructions for the project. Also lots of easy to understand instructions for accessories using wood, clay, fabric, paint etc. Gives ideas for seven unusual containers to make miniature scenes in. Very good for a any skill level of miniaturist. I intend to have each of my miniatures club member make the Hat Shop this summer I'm that impressed! There are only seven full projects and I wish there were more but it's still an excellant book to learn new skills and techniques.
